El fabricante chino lo ha presentado en su propio país, y aunque no sabemos aún si está llamado a convertirse en un teléfono internacional, lo cierto es que el Redmi S2 ya engrosa las filas del que es, a día de hoy, el cuarto fabricante a nivel mundial.
No nos llamemos a engaño, estamos ante un nuevo miembro de las gamas medias de Xiaomi y del mercado, un teléfono con unas características adecuadas para un desempeño razonable pero que no requiera una gran inversión. Y como característica clave, los 16 megapíxeles que el fabricante ha colocado sobre su pantalla. 16 megapíxeles para selfies con inteligencia artificial. Pero veamos el resto de sus características.

Un Redmi muy parecido al Xiaomi Mi A1
El nuevo Redmi S2 de Xiaomi se coloca ligeramente por debajo de los actuales Xiaomi Mi 5X o Xiaomi Mi A1, y lo hace principalmente en el apartado de cámara trasera, aunque también vemos un corto descenso en la pantalla. Estamos ante un teléfono de 5,99 pulgadas con aspecto 18:9, pero su resolución es HD. Es decir, de 1.440 x 720, por debajo del FullHD de otras gamas medias del fabricante.
En cuanto al procesador, repite el eterno e incombustible Snapdragon 625, con sus ocho núcleos a 2GHz y su GPU 506, aunque la carga rápida que soporta no llega a la batería del terminal, de 3.080 mAh. Para las memorias, dos modelos diferenciados. Tenemos uno básico con 3GB y 32GB y otro superior con 4GB y 64GB.
El Xiaomi Redmi S2 llega con Android 8.1 Oreo bajo MIUI, como es habitual en el fabricante, y tendrá posibilidad de montar dos tarjetas SIM, además de contar con llamadas 4G VoLTE bajo la red de datos. Por supuesto, hay lector de huellas en la espalda aunque no se hace ninguna mención al NFC. Suponemos, por tanto, que no está disponible.
Selfies desenfocados con inteligencia artificial y modo retrato trasero
Llegamos a las cámaras y aquí nos topamos con un doble sensor trasero, por un lado 12 megapíxeles y por otro lado 5 megapíxeles, con el segundo sensor encargado de las lecturas de profundidad. Eso supone automáticamente la aparición del modo estéreo de Xiaomi, el que se conoce como Retrato o modo de desenfoque en otros fabricantes, pero nada se dice sobre zoom óptico. Aunque siendo ambos sensores diferentes, lo lógico es que no haya.
En la trasera tendremos desenfoque con dos lentes, y en el frontal el trabajo lo hará una inteligencia artificial
En cuanto al frontal, 16 megapíxeles con píxeles de 2μm, muy luminosos. Cuenta Xiaomi que este sensor frontal estará también apoyado desde el software del teléfono con el modo de desenfoque con inteligencia artificial, y que este sistema también echará una mano en el modo belleza. Así que sí, tenemos desenfoque frontal por software con una sola lente, como ya vimos en el Xiaomi Mi 6X.

El teléfono llega en dos versiones de almacenamiento y también en tres colores. Lo tendremos disponible en oro rosado, en color champagne y en color plateado. En cuanto a los precios, ya conocemos los relativos a China y OS los mostramos a continuación:
