This is the same as most travel and “regular” hair dryers, but the efficiency is definitely higher. My “regular” professional hair dryer uses 1680-2000 watts, and there are a lot of professional models with 2200 and 2400 watts. That is, the Dyson Supersonic is more economical than most professional “colleagues”.
Now about the announced 20° styling. Dyson says that the airflow at this angle helps the scales that make up your hair smooth and stick together, so they don’t frizz, but they smooth out, and that makes your hair shinier. If you hold the hair dryer at the head vertically, the flow comes out just at this angle. It’s hard to say. everyone has a different way of holding their hair dryer. Let’s compare: in a normal hair dryer all the weight is on the widest part of the body, and we hold a hair dryer by a relatively thin handle, we have to strain our hand to hold the device (this does not apply to brush dryers, which also have a motor in the handle). If you use it for a few minutes, it’s not a big deal, but for a professional hair dryer, the difference should be noticeable.

Problem 4: Regular dryers are too noisy
We measured the noise level of the Dyson Supersonic and two other hair dryers with a noise meter under the same conditions with little background noise, keeping the dryers at the same distance from the noise meter. To our surprise, the Dyson Supersonic results were the same as the regular models: 63-64 dB at minimum and 69-70 dB at maximum. Why is that strange?? Because the Dyson Supersonic feels quieter. My review for those who are wondering how the hair dryer behaves over time, is it harmful or useful for the hair, what new things have been invented in Dyson for these hair dryers.
I can’t say that I wanted a futuristic (at that time) Dyson Supersonic hair dryer immediately after it appeared on the Russian market. Not interested in the range of hair dryers, being quite happy with my two friends, the Philips clone dryer and the Philips brush dryer.
However, when my 8 Philips hair dryer started to malfunction (making rattling noises which hinted that maybe it was not as good as it used to be :-)), I started to leisurely explore the options to replace it with a new one.
I’ve read several posts, watched many videos with reviews of the Dyson hair dryer. I found all of them interesting, but not enough to spend 29.990 of the family budget for a hair dryer, when there were great ones on sale for 6.000. It was only after trying the hair dryer in the store that I realized how much I needed it, and wrote a letter to Santa Claus 🙂
An important argument in favor of the purchase was the release by the brand for the New Year 2018 limited edition with cases (3 colors to choose from). Prior to that, hair dryers were available without covers.
Since then, new colors have become a good tradition, so periodically produced not only hair dryers themselves, but also covers for them in various shades. For example, now a very beautiful red hair dryer in a red case is relevant. There are other interesting combinations.
The case is really good. The hood is thick, and it protects the hair dryer reliably. It closes with a magnet. Stitched with pink thread.

First of all, the body itself has not changed in any way (no scratches, no damage from styling products), and secondly, the nozzles were surprisingly strong. Several times I’ve hit the doorjamb with the hair dryer attachment while drying. I was hitting it hard 🙂 The nozzles would fall on the bottom of the tub or on the tile floor. For that reason, several of my past hair dryers have gotten “dressed” in duct tape in the middle of their lives 🙂 Not only did the Dyson nozzles not crack, they were not even scratched.
It’s really high. I rarely used to blow dry my hair right after washing it. I usually let them air dry for about 20-30 minutes and then I just leave them to dry a little more to get them into shape. With the Dyson, I changed that habit and now dry/style my hair immediately after toweling. Except for application of non-washable care and styling products, a simple drying process takes 5 minutes. With a brushing action, it took 15 minutes.
ЗTotally beats the drying performance of the old Philips. I have porous hair that tends to frizz when blow-dried without a brush. Dyson even without nozzles and brush somehow makes it smoother. With nozzles, the effect of smoothness is even more pronounced, which gives owners of long, straight hair, reason to say that the hair dryer can replace the iron.
By this I mean that, firstly, the choice of modes makes it easy to understand which combination suits you; and secondly, the buttons are well fixed in the chosen position and cannot be switched accidentally.

When three lights are on, the hair dryer operates at maximum power and heats at maximum temperature.
I use minimum power and minimum temperature (occasionally medium, but never maximum). The airflow on the three-point mode is so strong that it blows heavy bottles and tubes off the bathroom shelves.
Thanks to all the above advantages of the Dyson hair dryer, I finally learned how to quickly and easily manage the styling of my uncomplicated haircut. Not only did the size of the Philips(-s) make styling torture with arm stretching, but the results were noticeably weaker.
The Philips hair dryer-brush (I have a twistable one) is much better at styling than the old bulky hair dryer, but I occasionally get confused which button to press, and the brush twists in the wrong direction, getting stuck in my hair and pulling some out. Besides the momentary trauma, the temperature of the hair dryer-brush is noticeably high for me, so I’m wary of doing this kind of styling after every wash.
I’m sure there are people whose hair looks great without a hair dryer, but I’m not one of them. My hair is porous, it’s not very dense. The purpose of the style: to raise the roots, shape the “nape of the neck”, remove frizz, if possible add volume and slightly shape the ends. To illustrate the work of the hero of the post, digging in the reviews, I found photos of my hair, dried with an old hair dryer,
and neater versions, styled with a hair dryer-brush and a Dyson hair dryer.
In terms of hair smoothness, the result is not much different. But let me remind you of three important differences: 1) a hair dryer is more convenient, no tangled hair, hands do not get tired; 2) therefore, the hair dryer is faster; 3) I do not overheat the scalp and hair with a hair dryer. The convenience of the tool makes the result look the way it was meant to look, not the way it was meant to be. The compact size of the hair dryer makes it easier for me to lift the crown of my head and shape the ends.
There are some disappointments, too. Unfortunately, the hair dryer for grass has not grown to the waist yet, and the hair dryer kit was not included 🙂
But seriously, it’s just a hair dryer. And the results from using it greatly depend on the hair and hands of the owner. There are girls who are able to style their hair without any gadgets and improvised materials “like from a salon. And there are some hairs, which are exposed to regular coloring, perms and irons, while remaining strong and healthy. So those who are already doing fine, it is definitely not worth spending money on this hair dryer.
For me, it was a real godsend. In addition to the above-mentioned strong advantages, over time I noticed a beneficial effect on the overall condition of hair. I’m sure there are some lucky women whose hair looks great without a hairdryer, but I’m not one of them. My hair is porous, its thickness leaves much to be desired. At the moment the topic of travel is not relevant, but in previous years I always went with my hair dryer. It doesn’t take a lot of room in my hand luggage, it weighs very little, and saves hair and time (in comparison to hotel monsters :-)).
The hair dryer has become one of my favorite household appliances. It generated such high confidence in the brand that when the need for a humidifier and vacuum cleaner arose, analogs from other firms were hardly considered.
By the way, I really like the fact that Dyson is actively developing its range not only “in breadth” but also “in depth. New devices appear, and the existing ones evolve. For example, over the years, a professional version of the hair dryer was released (for salons), additional accessories appeared (covers, new nozzles, wall mounts, stands, brushes and combs).
But the competitors do not sleep. In addition to the Chinese fakes there are Chinese analogues, of very good quality judging by the reviews, and with identical technical characteristics, judging by the description. The price of analogues does not exceed 50% of the price of Dyson. Raise a double impression. On the one hand, the Chinese are good, if they really could do the same thing twice cheaper, but on the other hand, you could add a little more personality to the new name 🙂
The Dyson supersonic miracle hair dryer, yes or no
Very long been looking at this miracle gadget, but the price tag was embarrassing. The hair dryer is a colossal thing for me, as my hair is thick, porous, which means that it is not going to dry on its own, and even if it does, it will end up with something similar to a nest on the head. I’ve always taken professional hair dryers with a lot of power to cut down on drying time. Of course this is not the best way to affect the condition of the hair. And now the moment had arrived.
Finally, I became the lucky owner of a Dyson supersonic hair dryer. Included with the miracle gadget came a rubber mat and 4 nozzles. I chose purple out of the 3 available.
The hair dryer is nice to the touch, not heavy 680 grams. The power is 1600 watts.
The button on the top left controls the airflow rate. There are three modes in total. Next to the button when you switch the light bulb lights up.
The button on the right with the red dot controls the temperature of the air flow. Next to it, there is also a light indication and 3 modes.
And finally, last is the “cold blast” button.
The air vents in this model are located at the bottom of the handle, which is very convenient. You can not overlap them by hand during use and it is unlikely you can. Removable grill covers the filter, which must be periodically cleaned of dust.

This hair dryer is a pleasure to use. It is not as powerful as my previous ones, but it is really gentle on the hair. In addition, the hair after it is NOT DRY, smooth and shiny to the ends without any styling products. This is nonsense in my case. Hair is prone to dry ends and frizz. Hair looks like after the salon. I don’t pull them out with a comb and don’t use styling products.
And finally, a few words about the Ikoo comb. I absolutely loved it. Beautiful comfortable, compact. It relieves static stress on the hair, brushes well even tangled strands, massages the head.
