How to work with an iron

The symbols indicating how to iron the thing are just as important as the signs on the clothes for washing. If you are not guided by the symbols, you can spoil your favorite thing in no time. Choose too high a temperature to iron a nylon blouse. it will show a hole. Always read the labels, especially since the symbols on the ironing instructions are self-explanatory, even to a school child. Doubting if you’ve got it right? Check chart.

The manufacturer has taken care of you by attaching a special label to his product, where in addition to the signs, with which we will introduce you in detail, there is information about the product itself, its composition, and warning inscriptions.

There are eight main basic and accompanying symbols on the label. We’ll look at them first, then focus on the details.

About washing

A schematic representation of a basin of water tells you about the rules of laundry on any label.

Let’s break down what it can be. deciphering the signs on clothes for washing in the table.

Simply use a basin of water, as in the photo Can be washed in a machine or by hand.
The pail of water is crossed No washing on any account. only dry cleaning.
One horizontal line under the pelvis The sign of the gentle washing: observe the specified water temperature when washing, when spinning include the lowest number of revolutions, not to expose the material to strong mechanical stress.
Two horizontal lines under the basin Delicate mode symbol: use plenty of water when washing, do not expose to mechanical influences; activate the fast spin in the washing machine.
Hand dipped in a basin of water Only hand wash. no washing in the washing machine. Do not twist or wring out during the process itself. The fabric must not exceed a water temperature of 30-40°C.

For a more detailed description of each sign, see the article “Signs on clothes for washing” with an indication of what fabrics they may be present.

The numbers drawn in the basin are the maximum water temperature at which it is permissible to wash the item.

Sometimes you can see dots like this inside the pelvis:

The dots also carry useful information

Inside the “basin” icon, the manufacturer can put information about the water temperature limit by means of both dots and numerical designations. meaning they will mean the same thing. Deciphering laundry marks on clothes. in the table.

Single point 30°С Gentle washing in a washing machine at maximum water temperature 30°C. Preferably, cold water using a neutral powder. Typically for woollens.
Two dots 40°С Neutral detergents and warm water up to 40°C in the washing machine. Dark or colored cotton, melange, polyester, synthetic or viscose fine linens may be marked.
Three dots 60°С Machine washing in hot water at a maximum temperature of 60 ° C. For delicate cotton or polyester fabrics.
95°С Product can survive boiling. This icon is visible on white or colored cotton or linen fabrics.

As you can see, the wash labeling is international.

About how to set a particular mode on the machine, the parameters of which generally indicated a gentle or delicate washing, you will learn from another part of the article.

About the dryer and spin

You will find information about drying and wringing in the “circle in the square” icon such a schematic image of a washing machine. All of these features, circles and forbidden signs are conveniently decoded in the photo below. to your attention deciphering the icons on the clothes when washing.

Ironing

Ironing instructions are logically represented by the iron icon.

Let’s break down in order the designations in the photo above:

  • Iron with three points. the product can be ironed at high temperatures up to 200 ° C, as well as steam. Cotton or linen products are usually marked with this symbol.
  • Iron with two points. allowed to iron at medium temperature (up to 150° C). We recommend ironing with a steam humidifier or with a slightly dampened cloth. Acceptable for silk, polyester, viscose and wool.
  • One point iron. fast ironing at low temperature (up to 110° C). This applies to articles made of acetate, polyester, polyamide, polyacrylic.
  • Iron on crossed out “legs” don’t steam the fabric.
  • A crossed out iron. the product is not recommended for ironing.

Bleach

About the rules of whitening the garment tell the four types of triangle on the garment.

Tip! If the clothes tags bother you or look unpresentable, you can do the following: take a picture of the necessary information on it, make a defining signature (winter sweater, green sweater, red polka dot skirt) and save the photo in the special album on your gadget. The label can now be cut off and thrown away, and everything you need for washing and ironing will remain intact.

Dry Clean

The attitude of the cloth can be judged by the circle with the symbols within it:

  • Circle without symbols. dry cleaning is permissible.
  • Crossed out circle. do not chemically clean.
  • The letter “A” in the circle indicates that the garment can be dry cleaned in any solvent.
  • The letter “P” in the circle. can only be cleaned with ethylene chloride, hydrocarbon, monoflorotrichloromethane.
  • The letter “P” in the circle underlined by a horizontal line. cleaning with the above means for the “P”, but more sparingly.
  • The letter “F” in the circle indicates chemical cleaning with triflotrichloromethane or hydrocarbon.
  • The letter “F” in the circle marked with a horizontal line indicates cleaning with the above mentioned products, but in a more gentle way.

Aqua-cleaning laundry

You will also find a sign on the label informing you that your laundry is professionally wet cleaned, the aqua-cleaner. These are various variations with a “W” placed in a circle. How not to get confused in them, the following table will tell you:

To “solidify the result,” we advise you to read the video in this article further.

Where they are

The washing marks on the garment are located on a special label, which is sewn on the wrong side. A fabric tag may also contain information about the material from which the clothing is made, composition and manufacturer. On the first or last insert, the size is indicated in different international values. Labels and tags are relocated to different locations depending on the garment.

Tip: Many people cut off tags because they are uncomfortable to wear. If it is necessary when wearing baby clothes for newborns, follow the rules of washing clothes for babies. Otherwise, write down the directions from the tags if they have additional recommendations.

Color

The first thing to do is sort the laundry by color. this is the most important point. With me, it usually looks like this:

  • White and light gray. if you plan to add bleach or wash at high temperatures. Otherwise, I recommend splitting even this batch into two.
  • Black and navy blue. I usually wash this batch with a special gel for black things so that they retain their rich color.
  • Red and orange. These two colors usually wash together: even if a little red fades, it won’t be noticeable on the orange. But if the red stuff is new and you’ve never washed it, it’s better to separate the laundry to be sure.
  • Multicolored things in light shades: yellow, pink, blue, purple. But if purple is a rich color. wash with blue things or separately.

Jeans should also be washed separately. because of the color, not the fabric. But if there aren’t many, sometimes you can add blue and dark gray things to them.

And remember: in parallel with sorting by color you need to check the s of each item, so that they do not have anything that can ruin clothes, washing machine or spoil itself. For example, a white batch of clothes may change color because of some red handkerchief left in the There is no way to restore these items.

sign, washed, washing, machine

Labels on clothing are usually in the form of a table, where each value indicates the recommended or unacceptable mode of washing. A common deciphering of markings on clothing labels is as follows:

  • Basin the washing mode and recommended temperature;
  • Iron Ironing;
  • Circle the possibility of dry cleaning;
  • Triangle the possibility of bleach;
  • Square drying.

Such tags are usually located under the collar or on the side seams. To make cleaning easier, it’s best not to cut off these tags. If the tag gives discomfort, it can be removed, taking a picture beforehand and saving the information on it.

What do we need?

When buying clothes, most people do not look at the manufacturer’s recommendations for care. And for nothing. For example, how are you going to clean a coat that is only recommended dry cleaning if you live in a small town where there are no such facilities? If you do not adhere to the rules, the item will quickly lose its appeal.

For a good look and long life, textiles need to be washed with the proper detergent.

The designations used on the label are universal and have been adopted by law in many countries. That is why they are obligatory in textile factories.

The tag itself is a piece of fabric, sewn to the product in an inconspicuous place on the wrong side. As well as information on how to wash, it often provides information on the manufacturer and the fabric’s composition.

Many people cut these tips off as the tag can be uncomfortable to wear. In that case, it’s best to keep the label and refer back to the care instructions as needed.

In order not to turn your home into a warehouse of cut labels and not to get confused which one belongs to which thing, use a simple tip. Before cutting the tag, take a picture of it with the garment, and it will be clear which dress or sweater it is sewn on. And when you need the information, simply look up the photograph on your phone or camera.

In the following sections we will get acquainted with the symbols that occur on labels.

Bleaching and dry cleaning

Things with this label should not be dry-cleaned.

You can safely dry clean and dry clean. Often these symbols are found on wool, leather, silk, or suede clothing. If there is a letter inside the circle, it tells you what chemicals are allowed to clean the fabric. These may be A (any substance), F (cleaning with petroleum products and trifluoro-trichloroethane), P (cleaning with perchloroethylene, chlorinated solvents and white spirit). And a fishing line under the rim tells the dry cleaner to make sure it’s handled with care.

Items with this icon on the label are allowed to be bleached with any bleaching agent. On old clothes there was a sign with cl (chlorine) inside. it is allowed to bleach with chlorine-containing substances. Nowadays, if you see it, it’s only crossed out. But more often, a ban on chlorine bleach is indicated by a black crossed triangle.

Spinning and drying

Rules depend on the type of fabric. So, for example, silk loses its shape with an automatic spin, and cotton in the dryer risks shrinking in volume. Icons on the label will help you navigate your way through the care instructions. They will also tell you how to properly dry and spin your clothes.

Spin-dry in the washing machine. Automatic spinning would not hurt such clothes, so leave it on.

Not machine spin dryable. It is better to turn off the spin cycle during the wash cycle and before drying remove the excess water from the garment by hand.

Can be dried. If this icon is printed on the label, then hang the garment in the washing machine, and do not worry about it loosing its attractiveness.

Do not dry. To be used in conjunction with the “No washing allowed” sign.

Dry without spin drying. Delicates could lose their shape, so take them out of the machine before wringing and leave to dry naturally, flat out.

Recommended drying temperature. One point. dry at low temperature (up to 40 ° C), two. at medium temperature (up to 60 ° C), three. at high temperature (above 60 ° C).

Must not be exposed to direct sunlight. Articles should be dried indoors. They risk losing their color in the sun.

Drying in the shade. This icon is the same as the previous one. It also requires hiding the item being dried from the sun.
