Late 2021 update: New app to Control Logitech webcam (C920, Brio, C922, C930 more)

If you own a Logitech webcam like the popular C920, Brio, C922, or C930 and want more control over the zoom or positioning so you look better in virtual meetings on Zoom or Teams, in the past you could use the Logitech Camera Settings app. It has been discontinued and replaced by the Logi Tune app (Logitech announcement). This app allows you to zoom in the camera and adjust other settings even while you are in a Zoom, Teams, Webex, or Google Meet meeting.

Download and Install the Logitech Logi Tune app

Start by going to Logitech’s Support website at https://support.logi.com. It will likely direct you to the support site for your geographic region. Click on the Downloads item in the menu to see the apps you can download. Look for the Logi Tune app. Here’s what the page looked like when I wrote this article in December 2021.

The Logi Tune app is the purple icon with the white vertical bars on the left in the fifth row.

Click on the icon or the app name and it will take you to the download page after auto detecting your operating system (it comes for Windows or Mac). Download the app and install it on your computer.

Start/Join the Zoom or Teams meeting first with your video

A webcam can only feed one app at a time so in order to have your webcam working in the Zoom or Teams meeting, you need to join the meeting and turn on your webcam in the meeting. This is an important sequence to follow. If you start the Logi Tune app first, your webcam may not be available to the meeting platform and you will see an error message telling you that the selected webcam is not available. I have had some situations where the Logi Tune app is already open and it transfers control to the meeting app automatically but I wouldn’t assume that behavior will be consistent for all setups.

Start the Logi Tune app

Once your webcam is in use in the meeting, start the Logi Tune app that you installed. The first screen lists your devices (don’t see your webcam? Check these connection tips from Logitech). Click on the webcam you want to control. You will see the controls and settings but will not see a preview in the app. That’s because the webcam is showing in the meeting. In my experience the app often remembers the last settings you had applied which can save you time if you just want to use the previously set zoom and positioning.

Use the Controls and Settings in the app

Even though you don’t see the video preview in the app, it can still control the webcam and allow you to adjust what is being sent to the meeting platform. The controls and settings you have will depend on the webcam model as some models allow different adjustments.

The most common adjustment will be to zoom in so the other meeting attendees can better see your face. Use the “” button on the Video tab of the app to zoom in or use the slider. You may have to wait a moment to see the adjustment in your video in the meeting. Once you have zoomed in, you can use the directional arrows to adjust yourself in the frame if you are cut off in any direction. Here’s the Video tab for my Logitech C920 in Windows after I have zoomed in so you can see the directional arrows.

Full-screen preview at the start of Teams meetings doesn’t show changes

If you are the only one in a Teams meeting at the start, you will not see the camera adjustments in the video preview that Teams shows you full screen before others join. When someone else joins the meeting, your small video preview in the lower corner will now show the adjustments. I am not sure why Teams does this but it is concerning when you don’t see the video change in full-screen preview mode at the start of the meeting. After everyone else leaves and you are the only one left in the meeting, the full-screen preview will correctly show any camera adjustments.

Default vs. zoomed in

Here’s what I look like with the default positioning. My camera is on top of my monitor about 24 inches from me.

Here’s what I look like with the camera zoomed in fifteen steps (which is just very small on the slider) and my image adjusted in the frame.

Now the attendees can see my facial expressions much better when I present.

Because the camera is showing less of your body, make sure that any hand gestures you use will still be seen in the camera frame.

Minimize the Logi Tune app during the meeting

Once you’ve used the Logi Tune app to adjust your video, minimize the app, leaving it running during the meeting. If you close the app, the adjustments you made to the video may be lost, so it is best to keep the app open and minimized during the meeting. This app takes very few resources and should not impact the performance of the computer in the meeting. When the meeting is over you can close the Logi Tune app.

Explore Color adjustment settings

The Color adjustment section in the Logi Tune app contains other settings you may want to adjust. I tend to leave these as the defaults but see if they might give you a better video in the meeting. I suggest you leave the autofocus, auto white balance, and auto exposure on as manually adjusting these can be a lot of work during a meeting.

Advantage over Logitech’s Capture app

Logitech also offers an app called Capture, that gives you control over the webcam. It actually is an app to capture video but it also offers a virtual camera to Zoom and Teams. The adjustments in the app allow you to show a better video in the meeting. The problem for some people is that there is a slight lag between the video being shown through the app and the audio being captured by the mic. This delay can be very distracting for the attendees. The Logi Tune app controls the webcam directly without adding any delay so the experience for the attendees is consistently better. Logitech also announced that the Capture app is being replaced by the G Hub gaming app so the Capture app won’t be available in the future.

Works when showing webcam in browser window

Using the Logi Tune app to control the video also works when you are showing your webcam video in a browser window. In this article I explain how to use a small HTML and javascript file to display the webcam video in a browser window. You then use Zoom’s multi-window sharing option to share your video beside your PowerPoint slides in Reading View. The Logi Tune app will adjust the video shown in the browser window.

Control your Logitech webcam with the Logi Tune app

By downloading the Logitech Logi Tune app you give yourself more control over your video in Zoom and Teams meetings.

This video shows how to use the Logitech Logi Tune app in a virtual meeting.

Logitech Webcam Not Working? Here’s How To Fix It

Logitech webcam not working can refer to a range of problems, from the webcam not being detected at all, to minor issues with the audio stream or video quality.

These aren’t exclusive to Logitech devices either. Webcams, in general, are prone to such issues, mainly due to problematic hardware or drivers.

In this article, we’ve detailed how you can diagnose and fix your webcam when it is not working. The solutions will be applicable for non-Logitech webcams as well.

How to Fix If Logitech Webcam Isn’t Working?

First, shut down your PC and unplug the webcam. Plug it back in and turn on your PC. In case of minor bugs or glitches, restarting and re-plugging is often all that’s needed to fix the issue. If the problem persists, you can move on to the rest of the solutions in this article.

Troubleshoot Physical Component Issues

When dealing with device issues, it’s best to start by eliminating faulty hardware as the cause. Here’s how you can do so:

  • Press Win X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Camera / Imaging Devices sections and check if the webcam is listed here. If it’s listed, the problem is likely software-related, so you can skip ahead to the next solution.
  • If it’s not listed, select Action Scan for hardware changes from the menu bar.
  • If the webcam is still not detected, there’s likely a hardware issue.
  • First, try connecting the webcam to a different port. If you’re using a USB hub, try connecting directly to the motherboard.
  • Disconnect other peripherals such as a wireless mouse to account for any possible device conflicts.
  • If possible, test the webcam on another system. If it doesn’t work there either, the webcam might be dead. Check for signs of damage to the webcam, cable, and USB connector.
  • If the webcam seems to be physically damaged, after all, you’ll have to get it repaired or replaced. Don’t forget to check if the warranty is still valid.

Use Camera Troubleshooter

If the webcam was detected in Device Manager in the previous solution, the issue is likely on the software end. A good way to start troubleshooting for this is by running the Camera Troubleshooter. Here are the steps to do so:

  • Press Win I and select System Troubleshoot Other troubleshooters.
  • Scroll down to the Camera section and press Run.
  • In the Help window, scroll down to Camera Troubleshooter.
  • Press Yes for automated troubleshooting and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Webcam Settings

If the troubleshooter wasn’t helpful, you’ll have to manually check some potential culprits, starting with your webcam settings. Here are the necessary steps:

  • Press Win I and select Privacy Security App Permissions Camera.
  • Make sure Camera access is enabled.
  • Scroll down and click on Camera Device Settings. You can also access these settings from the Bluetooth devices tab.
  • Make sure your webcam isn’t disabled here. Additionally, you can also try resetting the Camera settings to default.

Note: If the webcam isn’t working on a specific app only, you should check the in-app settings and make sure the webcam isn’t disabled there. Additionally, if your system has multiple webcams, you should specify which camera to use as well.

Troubleshoot with Logitech Software

Logitech software differs according to the webcam model. For instance, my Logitech C920 webcam uses Logitech G HUB.

If a driver or firmware update for your webcam is available, the Logitech software should notify you and ask to update. Installing these can help fix the issue.

Logitech software also allows you to configure the webcam settings. If you’ve configured the webcam differently in another program (Discord, for instance), the conflict could be the reason for your webcam issues.

In such cases, you can disable the device via the Logitech Software’s settings. If this option isn’t available, you can also try terminating all of the program’s related background processes, or removing the program entirely, to test for this. If the webcam issues persist, you can reinstall the Logitech software as it likely wasn’t causing the conflict.

Fix Driver Issues

If you encounter the 0xA00F4244 NoCamerasAreAttached or similar error, check the Device Manager. You’ll likely find an Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed), Device Descriptor Request Failed, or similar error.

In such cases, it would be best to troubleshoot for that specific error. You’ll find numerous articles on our site and elsewhere online that will be helpful for this purpose.

If you encounter an error regarding generic Windows UVC drivers, you should update the webcam driver if you haven’t already and select the updated driver instead. Here are the steps to do so:

Logitech webcam c930 / c9xx infinity focus fix. good for streamers!

  • In Device Manager, double-click the webcam.
  • Optional: In the Driver tab, select Update Driver Search Automatically for drivers. Alternatively, you can also update the drivers via the Logitech Software.
  • In the Driver tab, select Update Driver Browse my computer for driver software.
  • Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  • Enable the Show compatible hardware option and select the updated driver.

Sometimes, device issues also arise after an update because the latest drivers are buggy. You can check the timestamps in the Event tab to confirm this.

In such cases, you can roll back to the previous version. If you can’t roll back, you can instead uninstall the current drivers to switch to the generic USB Video drivers while waiting for a patch.

Finally, if your webcam works but has minor issues with the video or audio, updating the display adapter and audio drivers can also be helpful.

Resolve Background Conflicts

Antiviruses sometimes misinterpret legitimate programs and services as threats and block permissions necessary for them to work. You can temporarily disable, or even better, uninstall the antivirus to check if this is the issue.

If the antivirus turns out to be the culprit, you should consider switching to a different antivirus or Windows Defender. Otherwise, you can reinstall it later.

Numerous BitDefender users reported facing webcam issues due to the Webcam Protection feature. As such, the steps listed below are for BitDefender, but it’ll be similar for most other antiviruses:

  • Launch the antivirus and go to Privacy Video and Audio Protection Settings.
  • Turn off Webcam Protection and check if the webcam works now.

How to Fix Logitech Webcam Issues On Mac?

Most of the fixes from the above section will also be applicable on Mac. Additionally, resetting the System Management Controller (SMC), which controls various hardware functions on your Mac, can also be helpful. The steps to reset the SMC vary slightly on MacBooks and desktops.

On desktops, disconnect the power cable, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect the cable and turn on the Mac.

On Macbooks, here are the necessary steps:

  • Turn off your MacBook but keep the power adapter attached.
  • Hold down the Shift Control Option keys.
  • Power on your Mac and keep holding the keys for about 30 seconds.
  • After your Mac boots, check if the webcam issue is resolved.

Allow access to your webcam built-in microphone

On Windows, you can decide whether your system and apps can access the microphone. In case you’ve disabled the access for some reasons, you should check the settings and grant the permission for the access by following the instructions below:

1) Press the Windows logo key R at the same time to open the Run dialog box.

2) Click Privacy.

3) Click Microphone on the left pane. Then click on the Change button and make sure Microphone access for this device is turned on.

4) Under the Allow apps to access your microphone section, make sure it’s turned On.

5) Once you’ve allowed the microphone to access your apps, you can change the settings for each app. Simply head to the Choose which Microsoft apps can access your microphone, and turn on apps you want to use with it. For desktop apps, make sure that Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is turned On.

After you’ve done all of these, try to use your webcam microphone and check if it’s working properly. If the issue persists, try the next fix below.

Make sure your mic isn’t disabled

Sometimes you may not notice that your microphone has accidentally been disabled. To check if that’s your case, take these steps:

1) Right-click on the Speaker icon on the bottom-right corner of your screen. Then select Open Sound settings.

2) Under the Input section, make sure that your device is showing. Then click Device Properties.

3) Make sure the box next to Disable is unchecked.

After you’ve confirmed that the microphone is enabled, try to speak something to see if it’s now back to the normal state. If the microphone is still not working, try the next fix below.

Set your device as default

When you’re using an external camera, you might need to set that device as the audio device in order to access the built-in microphone. Normally, when your microphone is connected, Windows can automatically detect it and set it as the default input device. But sometimes it just fails to do that and you have to set it manually:

1) Right-click on the Speaker icon on the bottom-right corner of your screen. Then select Open Sound settings.

2) Scroll down to the section of Related Settings and click Sound Control Panel.

3) Select the Recording tab. Select your microphone and then click Set Default OK.

After applying changes, do a mic test to check if this method did the trick. If the microphone is still not working, you need to check the input sensitivity of your mic to ensure it is not too low or too high which could cause issues. Here’s how you can do this:

1) In the Sound window (shown as the picture above), right-click the microphone and select Properties.

2) Go to the Levels tab. Then, drag the slider to adjust the volume. While performing this step, you need to do a mic test at the same time.

If your microphone is still not working properly…

If nothing else helps and your microphone is still not working or you’re encountering some sound issues, give reparing your PC a try. It might be a system-level issue. By running a scan of your PC, you’ll be able to check if there are any corrupted system files and identify the your issue easily without scratching your head. Buying guide and FAQ

Which is the best Logitech webcam?

Our pick for the best Logitech webcam overall is the Logitech C920S. We feel it offers the most for your money. It’s an all-purpose webcam that only costs 60 and features a 1080p resolution, dual-mic stereo audio, and automatic light correction.

How much should you spend on a Logitech webcam?

It depends on your needs. If you just need a simple webcam for school, you can get away with spending as low as 25, but you’ll only get a 720p resolution, so keep that in mind. If you need lots of extras like support for Windows Hello (and the sensors it requires), HDR, and noise cancellation, you’ll need to be prepared to spend 100 or more for those features. You’ll also need to factor in accessories you may need, like webcam privacy covers or tripods. Some Logitech webcams already come with those things (and may cost more because of it), but if they don’t, you might need to purchase those accessories separately.

Do you need a 4K webcam?

Overall, it’s not really necessary to have a 4K webcam, as a number of popular videoconferencing services only allow a maximum of 1080p or 720p anyway, but 4K webcams can still be helpful in making your video calls and video recordings look more polished. At this point, 4K webcams aren’t required for smooth video calling, but they can provide welcome enhancements which could be useful in situations where you’re recording video or doing a live broadcast.
