Self-diagnostic system of modern air conditioners
New generation home appliances are usually equipped with self-diagnostic system intended for detection of failures and errors at their first appearing. Self-diagnosis system. a network of sensors monitoring the condition of the unit.
When the air conditioner is turned on, the sensors automatically start working and continue to do their job continuously until the unit is disconnected from the mains. Sometimes for malfunction and error correction the owner of air conditioner needs only to do the simple steps with his/her own hands, sometimes it is necessary to call specialists from authorized service of General Climate.
Let’s look at possible errors and their codes in different models of air conditioners and split air conditioners.GC systems, the causes of their occurrence and ways of elimination. Let’s try to understand in which cases manual measures are more suitable, and in which cases you should call an experienced technician.
GC air conditioners have an advanced self-diagnostic system which signals any malfunctions or faults to the control module
If the operating parameters of the unit where the sensor is installed change, the control module immediately issues an error signal, which appears on the unit’s display. If necessary, the control module also interlocks the equipment to prevent the air conditioner from malfunctioning and permanently damaging it.
Fault codes of different models of General Climate air conditioners may differ from each other. Let’s try to take a closer look at the codes of each model.

After it, temperature will be kept constant, and fan will work on low speed.If conditioner works in heating mode, in sleep mode the set temperature will fall by 1°C in 1 hour, and then by another 1°C in 2 hours. Then the temperature will be held constant and the fan will run at a low speed. In SLEEP mode, the air conditioner operates at a low noise level which is comfortable for sleeping.
Do not switch on air conditioner without air filter otherwise there will be dust,
If the fan fan is pressed inside the air conditioner, it will cause the malfunction of the air conditioner.
Transmitting and receiving commands
Let’s take the operation, which is the most common in everyday life: wireless remote control of TV set. The first thing the remote control circuitry does is determine which button has been pressed. The detection principle is the same as that of a computer keyboard: Scanning the matrix of placed buttons. But, unlike the PC keyboard, on the remote control the scan generator is in standby mode and turns on only when the buttons on the remote control are pressed. Thus the economical use of batteries is reached.
Then there is coding of control signal (command) and its transmission by IR-LED. Before transmitting the main signal synchronize the transmitting and receiving devices, also on the receiving side check the correspondence of the remote control code. The transmission itself will continue as long as the control button is pressed.
It is necessary to notice that manufacturers of electronic devices are not restricted in creation of algorithms of coding of control signals and used frequencies of modulation. It leads to the fact that often even one-size models of one manufacturer require different remote controls.
Instructions for General Climate remote controls and air conditioners
The manufacturer has developed a manual for each series of household and semi-industrial appliances. The model-specific characteristics (technical data) can be found in the data sheet. General Climate air conditioner instruction manual contains recommendations on operation, control, sections “General Climate air conditioner installation”, “Maintenance”, troubleshooting, description of the device (what is included is shown in schematic form), maintenance recommendations (how to clean the housing, filter cleaning process).
Read the safety instructions carefully. Violation of the rules can lead to shutting down the device (the air outlet openings must not be blocked). If you do not plan to use the unit for a long time (e.g. entire winter period), remove the plug from the socket and the batteries from the remote control. Power should be turned on 12 hours before start-up, this method of connection to the network contributes to the effective and smooth operation of the device.
- to adjust and at any moment to change the direction of air stream,
- Set the temperature mode, create comfortable conditions (set exactly as many degrees as you need for family members or workers who are in the room).
The filter must be cleaned twice a week, cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or washed with clean water with the outer side down. Before cleaning, it is necessary to switch off a power supply, disassemble a conditioner: take off a cover and take out the filter.

Manual to air conditioner remote control. what do the buttons and badges mean?
I will arrange all functions and buttons in the order of importance from often pressed to seldom used.
It is possible that the appliance will not start immediately after pressing the button (it depends on the chosen mode and temperature).
- To turn on the desired mode there is a button “Mode” (can be displayed on the remote control as several small icons. snowflake/sunshine/droplet). when you press it, the modes of air conditioner are switched sequentially. Most devices have 5 modes:
- automatic (the inscription “auto” or the “triangle” icon or other);
- cooling (“cool” or “snowflake” icon);
- heating (inscription “heat” or “sun” icon);
- S When setting the automatic speed, the device itself selects the speed at which the fan should be turned (the inscription “dry” or the icon “drop”);
- ventilation (the “fan” inscription or the “fan” icon. it is important not to confuse “fan” mode with the “fan” speed control button).
After switching on the desired mode it is important to wait 5-10 minutes until the “cooler” resets itself.
P.S. Rarely seen remote controls, where the modes are not activated by the Mode button, but by separate buttons of modes. Cool, Heat, Dry, etc.
The principle of work is simple. whatever temperature you set on the remote control, the conditioner will support in the room. For example, if you set it to 25, then the device will try to keep 25 degrees in the room (many people mistakenly think that the higher the number, the colder the device will blow. this is wrong). )
- Of course, if air conditioner is not calculated correctly, it will never reach needed temperature.
- On some models the adjusted figure automatically changes to the current temperature in the room. do not be confused.
- The air conditioner will not cool, if you set 25 on the remote control, and for example in the room it is already 24 degrees. The same applies to the heating mode (the device will not heat if the desired temperature in the room has already been reached).
- To change air blowing speed from indoor unit you have to find “Fan speed” button (it can be just “Fan” or just “Speed” or just “fan” icon).
On the display, the fan speed is shown as a scale or the inscription low/med/high/auto. At setting of automatic speed device itself chooses with what speed at any given moment to rotate the fan.
Speed setting does not affect the value of set temperature (for example, if you set 25 degrees, the same temperature will be maintained). This function only affects how quickly the room cools (how quickly it reaches the set temperature).
It is important not to confuse fan speed control “Fan” and operating mode “Fan” (ventilation. switched with “Mode” button). Also do not confuse automatic fan speed with the automatic mode of the device (“Auto” is also switched with the “Mode” button).
- To change the direction of air flow, you need to find the “Swing” or “Air flow” or “Air direction” button (it may be in the form of “arrow-like” or “bracket-like” icons).
The stream at any air conditioner is regulated in two directions. up/down and to the right/left. Up/down on any air conditioner is controlled by a button on the remote control. But right/left can also be adjusted manually (in this case be careful and better turn off the air conditioner).
The “Swing” up/down button can have several variations:
- Sometimes the direction changes in the simplest mode (once pressed. the curtains “float”, the second time pressed. the curtains are fixed at any point in the amplitude);
- Sometimes, the direction changes in steps (once pressed. the curtain moved one step, the second time pressed. the curtain moved another step, and so on);
- Sometimes the position changes, as the schematic representation on the remote control display shows.
I recommend to experiment with setting the direction of the flow to find the safest position (so that the air flow would not blow on people and resting areas of the households. for details read here)
These are the basic buttons, which are present on every remote control. Let’s analyze additional, more rare buttons and functions.
- To turn on the “sleep mode” are used buttons “Sleep” (can also be “Good sleep”). The operation algorithm of this function is different in all air conditioners, but what they have in common is that the fan operates at the slowest speed. In this mode, the set temperature can be changed automatically by no more than 2 degrees. this occurs gradually over several hours. It is connected with the phases of a person’s sleep, so that the temperature at night when you fall asleep, wake up and in a deep sleep is the most comfortable and safe.
The “moon-shaped” icon is often seen on the display during sleep mode. details how exactly your model works when this option is activated can be found only in the instruction for its operation (it comes together with the documents to the “split”).
Quiet” mode fulfills approximately the same function, but the temperature does not change automatically.
- In order to cool the room as quickly as possible the so-called “turbo mode” is used. Buttons on the remote control have “Turbo”, “Jet”, “Jet cool”, “Powerful”, “Hi power”, or similar icon as “high speed fan”. To activate the accelerated cooling once you need to press the appropriate button. After which the fan of the indoor unit starts spinning at the highest speed. When the set temperature is reached, the “turbo mode” is automatically deactivated. It can also be turned off on its own by pressing the button again.
- To program the time to turn on or off the appliance a timer is used. Timer setting buttons differ from air conditioner to air conditioner. Some models have only one button (“Timer”), some models have a whole block of buttons for time setting (“Clock”, “Timer on”, “Timer off”, “On”, “Off”, “Cancel”, “Set” and various arrows). With these models the setting is more intuitive. you first need to set the current time, then the time to turn on or off the “condenser”. And in models with only one “Timer” button the function of time switching is fulfilled by standard buttons (temperature regulation, fan and others).
Principle of operation of universal remote control
The universal remote control looks no different from the original machine controller.
The plastic housing is equipped with a small display that shows all the commands used. All buttons responsible for the standard functions of the technique are signed with English words.
The qualitative remote control from the checked up manufacturer can work with more than 4 000 models of conditioners, and the inexpensive devices can work with 1 000 different split-systems
The main feature of universal remotes is the large number of set frequencies of infrared beam transmission, each of them corresponds to a particular model of equipment. You can find out if a specific remote control is suitable for your climate control from the product manual.
Such control allows not only switching split-system on and off, but also regulating direction of air stream, temperature of cooling and heating of the air.
In addition, almost any universal remote control to control the air conditioner has the following functions:
- HEAT. activates the room heating function up to 30 ° C.
- COOL. turns on the command to cool the room to 18 ° C, while the temperature indicator may vary depending on the model of the device.
- DRY. lowers the humidity level in the cooled room by reducing fan speed.
- FAN. adjusts the fan speed according to the user’s needs.
- AUTO. switches on the automatic mode to maintain optimum indoor temperature.
Universal remotes are not expensive, what cannot be said about purchase of the original remotes.
If you choose a more expensive model you can be sure that such a universal remote control supports almost all brand-name models.
Unlike original controller, universal controller will not be able to activate such function as atmospheric air sub-air
All the so called “frills” will be absent when controlling the universal remote control.
In this case it is possible to buy a new original remote control, or to choose a more appropriate model of universal device by consulting the workers of the service center.
Icons and buttons on the internal block of split-system
Practically all indoor units have one “magic button”, with the help of which one can switch on air conditioner with the automatic setting. Usually it is not noticeable. it is situated under the front cover of the block on the case or on the display. It is called “auto” or “on/off”. You can’t set the necessary parameters with this button. you’ll need a remote control, at least a universal one (if you lost your regular one). information about this hidden button you can read on the link below (to the article about switching on air conditioner without remote control).
Instructions on setting of air conditioner in different modes
If you need to switch on your conditioner in some definite mode, there are all instructions on my site already:
- Switching on the air conditioner on cooling;
- setting to heating;
- switching on automatic mode;
- Setting of dehumidification mode;
- switching on the ventilation mode;
- setting up the air conditioner without a remote control;
- control of split-system by telephone.
Considered in this article buttons and functions are most often found on remotes, but we can also find “sophisticated” remotes, which also have all the same options, but they are marked unusually. Examples: round remote controls on LG Stylist; the same remote controls on Electrolux are with unclear signs and other.

Why Europe Faces An Air Conditioning Problem After Its Red-Hot Summer
The main lines of air conditioners
The modern consumer is offered wall and ceiling air conditioners Haier, in cassette, duct and console version. They differ in capacity, power and way of installation. Thus, Khaer air conditioners can be with installation of the outside unit on the outside wall of a building or in a window opening, the devices of household purpose. only wall-mounted and mobile, semi-industrial console and duct. ceiling type of installation.
Household inverter air conditioners, which differ in the ability to change the speed of the compressor. Control unit of such devices allows you to continuously adjust the cold or heat output of the device, to maintain the specified temperature parameters, to provide a regular supply of fresh air and save up to 30% of energy.
Household non-inverter air conditioners of the floor version, which operate on the principle of “off/off”, that is, in order to maintain certain climatic parameters, the device itself is constantly on and off.
Multi-split systems with inverter are universal devices, designed for air conditioning. Such models of air conditioners consist of several indoor and one outdoor unit, which is installed outdoors, outside the building. The external unit of such air conditioners is so powerful that the split-system haier can serve several different rooms, but in the same mode with a common temperature and humidity.
Semi-industrial channel and cassette systems Haer for installation in large areas, in production halls, offices, sales areas, etc.д. They can be inverter or non-inverter, with window or column mounting type of indoor units, operate to heat the air, cool and clean it, as well as to distribute air flows evenly throughout the room.
VRF and VRV multi-zone systems are versatile and powerful ducted air conditioners that cool, heat and purify the air. Such air conditioning systems allow you to create individual climate zones with different temperature values.
Chillers and fancoils are industrial refrigeration machines of high capacity and with the function of blowing ventilation, which can create an optimal microclimate in residential and industrial buildings, shopping centers and office and residential buildings. Inner blocks of such devices are of cassette type, are super slim and have ceiling mounting system, that is why they are practically invisible, do not disturb the users and do not clutter the space.
Besides the manufacturer has released a new series of Haier air-conditioners. Lightera Oxygen with Vi-Fi Smart function which allows the owner to control the operation of the device with the help of cell phone, tablet or laptop.
Self-diagnosis of air conditioners
Most models of split-systems which are produced in the last decades, can check their condition and report the found faults. This function can be run in a special mode (usually by the service center technician), but it also works automatically.
You can learn about the fact that there was a failure, thanks to the indicators or information on the display of the air conditioner. This happens as follows:
