Before replacing the sunroof cuff with your own hands, assemble a small case with tools. You will need:

  • Phillips screwdriver or electric screwdriver;
  • 2 slotted (minus) screwdrivers;
  • Pliers and a socket wrench (not required);
  • Dishwashing liquid or gel soap.

Whatever your washing machine is, you need to proceed pretty much the same way:

  • Inspect the machine and move it away from the wall.
  • Disconnect from utilities: power and water supply.
  • Remove the clothing from the drum.
  • Open the door.

The gasket is secured with two clamps. Remove the first one, which is usually located on the outside of the rubber band:

  • Carefully unbend the rubber band by pulling it toward you.
  • You will see what looks like a metal wire (but the clamp can also be plastic).
  • Undermine the clamp with the first thin screwdriver, and use the second to pull the part toward you.
  • If you have needle-nose pliers, you can use them to remove. The clamp is tightened by a special spring: if it is stretched, it will come off easily. To extend the spring, insert the tool into its mounts and spread the handles. The spring will stretch and the clamp can be easily disassembled.

To remove the second (inner) clamp, remove the front panel of the machine. This isn’t hard to do:

  • Unscrew a couple of screws from the back of the washer that hold the top cover.
  • Pull the cover toward you, remove and set aside.
  • Remove the detergent cuvette. Pull the receiver all the way out and push down on the latch, which you will see in the center. Usually it’s a small strip of plastic that covers the container for the rinse aid.
  • Unscrew any fasteners you see behind the laundry detergent receiver.
  • Above the display panel unscrew two more screws, and then carefully move the panel to the top, so as not to break the wiring.
  • There are still mounts under the panel. get rid of them too.
  • The washer should rest against the wall: tilt it back a bit to make it easier to remove the mounts from underneath.
  • Open the service hatch on the bottom of the machine (front).
  • Straighten the emergency drain hose and unscrew any fasteners you find.
  • Push the rubber band inside the drum as far as possible.
  • You can remove the front cover. Pull it upward to make it give way easily.
  • Find the clamp that holds the gasket to the tank.
  • To loosen it, you need to unscrew the bolt. If it’s uncomfortable, hold the nut with a socket wrench.
  • If your model CM has filler spigots attached to the collar, remove them from there by loosening the clamps and removing the retainer.
  • Now you have completely released the part, you can remove it.

Attention! Since you’ve done such painstaking work, take advantage of a good moment to clean the front of the drum of accumulated dirt and scale.

Be careful: wear gloves when removing the top cover, as the lower ends are sharp. And if the front panel turns out to be heavy, get someone to help you so you don’t drop it on yourself.
