How to Remove the Knife from a Moser Machine

Sharpening blades on a shearing machine

Knives get blunt with constant use. Usually it happens unexpectedly: the day before the device cut normally, and suddenly at the next attempt to trim the hair it begins to cut badly. The easiest way out of the situation is to replace the blades yourself or entrust the work of sharpening them to a specialist. But these methods require costs and are not always feasible in practice: no workshop is nearby or there are no necessary spare parts. The work can be done by your own hands, using the tools that almost everyone has at home. There are many ways to sharpen the clipper blades yourself.

What is a hair clipper made of

Modern barbers and hairdressers use many tools in their work, from the simplest comb to ingenious devices like automatic curling iron. And yet, the most important cutting tools were and still are scissors and clippers. We’ve covered how to choose the right clippers and clippers for your hair in previous articles. Today, we’re going to try to figure out what an indispensable washing machine is.

At first glance it may seem that this is a very simple tool, because it’s enough to press the button and the machine will do everything by itself: it will remove the bulk of the hair, trim the beard line, will arrange temples and the back of the head. And, of course, we rarely think about what’s going on inside the machine, and generally a very vague idea of what a hair clipper consists of. But it’s not a superfluous knowledge, especially when it comes to maintenance: we often get telephone calls from worried customers, who need to buy parts for Moser or Wahl, and who can hardly explain what they need.

Especially for those who prefer to repair good tools, rather than rushing to buy new ones, we decided to write an article about how a clipper is designed and what parts of it most often need to be replaced. We will not describe in detail every screw or spring, but tell you about the main parts of the machine, to understand the names and purpose of which will be most useful to you.

Before we proceed to the main part of our article, we want to warn you: do not try to repair the clipper yourself, if you doubt that you know its construction well enough. Incorrect actions can lead to the fact that the tool will finally break down and it can not be repaired for free under warranty! We recommend to contact only certified trimmer service centers. you can find their address at our website.

Removing and preparing blades for sharpening

Use a brush and damp cloth to clean the blades of dirt and dust. To remove rust use improvised means or special solutions. These products are sold in a wide range of stores of household chemicals. You can also buy them at auto parts and plumbing supply stores.

Disassembling the blade assembly

To remove rust, the knives are dipped for a few minutes into a container with a special solution. Using a cotton swab or brush, treat the surface of the blades. Repeat the process if necessary.

To lubricate the blades and other moving elements use only specialized oil. In some cases machine or spindle oil may be used. Do not use vegetable oil!

Using a dry cloth, the blades are wiped dry and dried in a warm place. After treating and lubricating the rubbing surfaces, reassemble the machine in reverse order.

Careful cleaning of the blades from dust and debris helps to partially restore the function of the machine. Completion of these procedures is sufficient to continue the operation of the self-sharpening blades machine. In case of insufficiency of the activities performed proceed to the next step.

How and why to take care of your hair clipper

Every master knows that the quality of tools also depends on the quality of the hair cut. That’s why most masters do not spare money for their tools and buy the most expensive ones. But, unfortunately, after a while they start to say that the scissors are bad, or the machine chews the hair, or the iron sticks to the hair. And we meet such situations very often. And the problem, in fact, as such does not exist. Just not everyone knows how to properly care for their tools, or simply do not do it, and immediately begin to complain and look for problems in the tool.

Hair clippers. a tool that requires not just careful, but regular care. After all, if it is properly cared for, cleaned and lubricated in time, its life can be extended in three (!) times. Of course, he who bought his first machine, always carefully studied all the documentation attached to it, read the instructions and will follow them clearly, at least for a while. But more often the opposite happens, when the hairdresser receives the desired machine, he quickly throws the box with all the accompanying documentation into a far corner and begins to use his joy continually. And so day after day. And after a month, right when you’re clipping the machine turns off and does not turn on again. Panic and calls to the service begins. What’s wrong with the machine?? Because, for a long time machine was not cleaned from the hair, they accumulated and began to get into the body itself, where the engine or battery. If one of the motor contacts gets caught during the operation, there is a mini-circuit and the motor stops.

Believe me, this happens all the time. The problem can be solved very easy, if the operator follows all maintenance rules, described by the manufacturer in the manual.

And the second problem, which is less common, but nevertheless quite often. the machine starts jamming the hair. It turns out that not everyone still knows that the knives need to be lubricated after each use!) haircuts. Some do it every two weeks and some do it once a month. This causes the knife blades to blunt and begin to chew and tear the hair.

To keep your hair dryer for a long time, use these steps regularly and you will not only get a much longer life, but you will save money on new ones as well.

How to clean your hair clipper:

  • Clean and lubricate the blade after each cut.
  • Most models are equipped with a quick blade removal system. If you own such a machine it won’t be difficult to lubricate and clean it from hair. After removing the blade and brushing the machine, refill it with oil. Put the knife on and turn the machine on for 10 seconds. This will allow the oil to spread evenly throughout the blade. For clarity, Moser specialists have made a video that shows how easy and simple it is to remove the blade.

For people who have a machine with a knife bolted on, you’ll need a screwdriver. Unscrew the blade, clean the upper and lower blades with a brush and lubricate the cutting surfaces. And then once again grease the screw upper and lower blades. Screw on the blade and operate the sharpening machine for approx. 10 seconds to spread the oil evenly.

If you follow this simple rule, first of all, your machine will always be clean and have a neat look. Secondly, the service life of the machine will increase threefold. Thirdly, it will always work and will not let you down at the most important moment.

How to sharpen the blades yourself

Step-by-step explanation of how to make knives sharper at home.

Step 1. Unplug the appliance from the mains. Remove the nozzle from the machine, find and unscrew the screws for the blades, with which they are screwed to the head. Pull the blade and blade guide out carefully. using tweezers or pliers to avoid cutting yourself. Be sure to memorize or sketch the location of all the parts so that you can put the tool back together more easily later. You can also take a video of the disassembly process on your camera phone, which also helps you to reassemble it correctly.

Step 2. Thoroughly clean the blade surfaces to remove hair clogging from previous clippings. This is best done with a toothbrush or a special scrubbing brush, usually supplied with the set. If you notice any rust on the blades, remove the rust with a special tool. After cleaning, dry all of the parts and wipe them with a soft cloth to remove any moisture or grease residue.

Step 3. Examine the parts carefully. If there are no nicks, gouges or other damage on the blades, it’s possible that your machine just needed a thorough cleaning and the cutting quality is not good due to a clogged mechanism. At this point you can now reassemble the tool and try it out. If the clipper blades look dull or damaged, go to the next step.

Step 4. Take the fine-grained water-resistant sandpaper, place it on a flat hard surface or fix it on a block. Moisten the surface of the paper with a little water to form an abrasive slurry. Press the side of the knife slightly against the paper at an angle of 30° to 45° and make a figure-of-eight pattern on the surface until the blades are smooth and even.

When working with a grinding stone, this step looks almost similar. Fix the knife on the magnetic holder, fix it at an angle of 30° to 45° and move it several times (5 to 10) from one end of the stone to the other (no need to add water in this case). Work the second piece in the same way.

Step 5. Then repeat the process with a finer grit sandpaper or stone to finish polishing the surface. In between processing steps, rinse or wipe the part thoroughly to remove any coarse metal particles left behind after sharpening. When the surface is shiny and smooth the process is over.

Step 6. After sharpening, apply lubricant or oil to all parts and wipe them down with a rag to remove any excess. This process will prevent the teeth from overheating during operation, protect them from chafing and extend their service life. Important. Use only machine grease! Regular vegetable oil can irreversibly damage the machine.

Step 7. Re-assemble the tool, plug it in and let it run for a few minutes. This will complete the sharpening process and help the oil to spread more evenly between the parts.

Congratulations! You have sharpened the blades yourself.

Separate the blade assembly from the housing before cleaning the power tool. Actually, cleaning your sewing machine is all about cleaning the blades. If your machine does not have a removable blade assembly, you will need a screwdriver to remove the blade.

What you need to clean your machine?

Make sure you have everything you need before you start cleaning:

  • A special flat brush with a stiff pile, which usually comes with the machine.
  • A special solution for cleaning blades. It helps get rid of dirt, oil and cosmetic residue. An example of such a tool is WD-40. Acts WD-40 enough aggressively, so it is recommended to work with it only with gloves, be careful to avoid contact with skin and mucous membranes.
  • Silicone Oil.
  • Lint-free cloths or rags. to dry the knives and remove excess oil from them after treatment.

How to Clean Machine Blades?

  • First remove any clippings from the blade and teeth with a brush. In principle, you can skip this and go directly to the next step.
  • Wash the knives on all sides with a cleaning solution. Wash several times, leaving each time to “soak” for a few minutes. You’ll see: after so much dirt drips off the blade, you’ll be cleaning your machine after every use. DO NOT rinse with water, the blades may rust. In addition, products like WD-40 contain water repellents that also act as a lubricant.
  • Wipe dry with a cloth or rag.
  • Now we need to lubricate our blades. Apply a small amount of oil (it should not drip) on the contact parts of the blades: on the edges, in the middle and under the heels of the knives. Do not let the oil get on the teeth, otherwise the blades will quickly become unusable.
  • Wipe off any excess oil and put the blades back in place, turn the machine on for a few seconds to allow the oil to spread as it should.
  • Now your machine is ready to go, have fun cutting.

And if you haven’t cleaned your machine and it left this world in agony, the Mustang line of hairdressing machines is for you (but only if you take care of it):

How to extend the life of your machine? Care tips.

Rest assured that with regular cleaning and care, your hairdressing tools. and especially your knife blocks. will last a long time. Lubrication and care will reduce friction, heat and wear on the blade and protect it from harmful environmental influences. Improper care increases the stress on the power tool, which can cause wear on the motor and gears, and shortens battery life and blade cutting ability.

Most of our machines, both cordless and cordless, have quick change blade assemblies. It allows you to quickly and easily remove the knife block from the machine.

Here are a few simple maintenance tips

  • The knife block should be cleaned and oiled with a special brush after each cut.
  • After lubrication the removed knife is put back.
  • If your blower does not have a quick-release blade assembly, a screwdriver will need to be used to remove the blade and unscrew the bolts holding it in place. After cleaning the top and bottom of the knife block with a brush, the cutting surfaces should be lubricated. After adjusting the lubricator, both blade parts can be screwed back on.
  • Then let the machine run for about 10 seconds to allow the oil to spread evenly over the cutting surface of the blade.
  • You can learn how to do it properly by watching our videos.

Why adjust your hair dryer?

You can start using the machine without any adjustments, but after a while you may experience a number of problems. Maker makes strange noises, jams in the hair, cuts hair unevenly and jerkily. This is because the blades lose their sharpness over time, the space between them becomes clogged with hair clippings and skin flakes, and the balance between the blades becomes unbalanced.

You can tell when the machine needs urgent adjustment by the following signs:

If the machine shocks or does not turn on, it must be unplugged and disassembled to determine the problem. You can do it yourself or take it to a service center.
