The work can be done by your own hands, using the tools that almost everyone has at home. There are many ways to sharpen the clipper blades yourself.
What is a hair clipper made of
Modern barbers and hairdressers use many tools in their work, from the simplest comb to ingenious devices like automatic curling iron. And yet, the most important cutting tools were and still are scissors and clippers. We’ve covered how to choose the right clippers and clippers for your hair in previous articles. Today, we’re going to try to figure out what an indispensable washing machine is.
At first glance it may seem that this is a very simple tool, because it’s enough to press the button and the machine will do everything by itself: it will remove the bulk of the hair, trim the beard line, will arrange temples and the back of the head. And, of course, we rarely think about what’s going on inside the machine, and generally a very vague idea of what a hair clipper consists of. But it’s not a superfluous knowledge, especially when it comes to maintenance: we often get telephone calls from worried customers, who need to buy parts for Moser or Wahl, and who can hardly explain what they need.
Especially for those who prefer to repair good tools, rather than rushing to buy new ones, we decided to write an article about how a clipper is designed and what parts of it most often need to be replaced. We will not describe in detail every screw or spring, but tell you about the main parts of the machine, to understand the names and purpose of which will be most useful to you.

Removing and preparing blades for sharpening
Use a brush and damp cloth to clean the blades of dirt and dust. To remove rust use improvised means or special solutions. These products are sold in a wide range of stores of household chemicals. You can also buy them at auto parts and plumbing supply stores.
Disassembling the blade assembly
To remove rust, the knives are dipped for a few minutes into a container with a special solution. Using a cotton swab or brush, treat the surface of the blades. Repeat the process if necessary.
To lubricate the blades and other moving elements use only specialized oil. In some cases machine or spindle oil may be used. Do not use vegetable oil!
Using a dry cloth, the blades are wiped dry and dried in a warm place. After treating and lubricating the rubbing surfaces, reassemble the machine in reverse order.

Because, for a long time machine was not cleaned from the hair, they accumulated and began to get into the body itself, where the engine or battery. If one of the motor contacts gets caught during the operation, there is a mini-circuit and the motor stops.

How to clean your hair clipper:
- Clean and lubricate the blade after each cut.

After removing the blade and brushing the machine, refill it with oil. Put the knife on and turn the machine on for 10 seconds. This will allow the oil to spread evenly throughout the blade. For people who have a machine with a knife bolted on, you’ll need a screwdriver. Unscrew the blade, clean the upper and lower blades with a brush and lubricate the cutting surfaces. And then once again grease the screw upper and lower blades. Screw on the blade and operate the sharpening machine for approx. 10 seconds to spread the oil evenly.
If you follow this simple rule, first of all, your machine will always be clean and have a neat look. Secondly, the service life of the machine will increase threefold. Thirdly, it will always work and will not let you down at the most important moment.

How to sharpen the blades yourself
Step-by-step explanation of how to make knives sharper at home.
Step 1. Unplug the appliance from the mains. Remove the nozzle from the machine, find and unscrew the screws for the blades, with which they are screwed to the head. Pull the blade and blade guide out carefully. using tweezers or pliers to avoid cutting yourself. Be sure to memorize or sketch the location of all the parts so that you can put the tool back together more easily later. Step 2. Thoroughly clean the blade surfaces to remove hair clogging from previous clippings. This is best done with a toothbrush or a special scrubbing brush, usually supplied with the set. If you notice any rust on the blades, remove the rust with a special tool. After cleaning, dry all of the parts and wipe them with a soft cloth to remove any moisture or grease residue.
Step 3. Examine the parts carefully. If there are no nicks, gouges or other damage on the blades, it’s possible that your machine just needed a thorough cleaning and the cutting quality is not good due to a clogged mechanism. At this point you can now reassemble the tool and try it out. If the clipper blades look dull or damaged, go to the next step.
Step 4. Take the fine-grained water-resistant sandpaper, place it on a flat hard surface or fix it on a block. Moisten the surface of the paper with a little water to form an abrasive slurry. Press the side of the knife slightly against the paper at an angle of 30° to 45° and make a figure-of-eight pattern on the surface until the blades are smooth and even.
When working with a grinding stone, this step looks almost similar. Fix the knife on the magnetic holder, fix it at an angle of 30° to 45° and move it several times (5 to 10) from one end of the stone to the other (no need to add water in this case). Work the second piece in the same way.
Step 5. Then repeat the process with a finer grit sandpaper or stone to finish polishing the surface. In between processing steps, rinse or wipe the part thoroughly to remove any coarse metal particles left behind after sharpening. When the surface is shiny and smooth the process is over.
Step 6. After sharpening, apply lubricant or oil to all parts and wipe them down with a rag to remove any excess. This process will prevent the teeth from overheating during operation, protect them from chafing and extend their service life. Important. Use only machine grease! Step 7. Re-assemble the tool, plug it in and let it run for a few minutes. This will complete the sharpening process and help the oil to spread more evenly between the parts.

- Wipe off any excess oil and put the blades back in place, turn the machine on for a few seconds to allow the oil to spread as it should.
