Connecting the scales to the vending equipment: Features and rules
Weighing equipment today is much different from what was used decades ago. Today their functionality has significantly expanded, and they are able not only to determine the weight of goods, but also to successfully integrate with online cash registers, to determine the total purchase price, to calculate change. And this is not all the features. That’s why the choice, connection and programming of scales today is particularly relevant, and consider it in detail.
Manufacturers offer different types of scales for trade. Modern models differ from each other in a number of parameters and characteristics, including size, list of functions, appearance and features. Depending on the specifics of the point of sale or warehouse the following types of scales can be used:
-
. Such models are designed only for weighing, and therefore can hardly please with a variety of options, and in addition are not integrated with online cash register. Most often they are used in manufacturing facilities and workshops for the unpacking of goods. It is not forbidden to work with filling scales in stores and markets, but in this case, the cost of purchased products must be counted on a calculator: such scales do not have the appropriate function.
- For shop counters. One of the most popular and popular varieties of weighing equipment. These scales are used in supermarkets, stores of different scale, kiosks and retailers. Their functionality is much wider than that of prepackages: in addition to determining the weight of goods they can calculate the change and the total cost of purchases, determine the weight of products without packaging (tare), etc.д. Most of these models are equipped with a double-sided display so that all information on the weighing can be seen by customers. Such scales can be connected to an online cash register, thus creating a complete cash register node with a full set of equipment.
- Scanner scales. The most modern equipment that allows you to weigh the goods directly at the checkout counter with simultaneous reading of a bar code. Most often it is necessary to check the goods previously weighed by customers in self-service area.
- Automatic (counting). Their main function is calculation of quantity of units of goods. Range of application of such scales is quite narrow: as a rule they are used in construction stores or hypermarkets.
. Used in the self-service areas of supermarkets and hypermarkets. They are characterized by accessible and understandable for customers interface: just put the product on the scales, find it in the list and press the button. All models of this type connect to online cash registers.
Besides these types of equipment, there are also special scales for certain tasks. So, for example, platform scales are needed in warehouses and production facilities for weighing of large-sized products weighing up to 3 tons, and laboratory scales with supersensitive sensor are used in jewelry stores, drugstores and other trading points where even a tenth of a gram is important and the error should be minimal.
How to choose the right scale
In addition to choosing the type of scale as such, it is also important to pay attention to other parameters:
- Weighing range. The maximum mass of a product that can be determined by weight varies depending on the model. In this case, you need to focus on the range and weight of the largest goods that it includes.
- Error. The greater the mass allowed for weighing, the greater may be the deviation from the exact weight. That is why the range of laboratory models does not exceed 600 grams, and the measurement accuracy is defined to a hundredth of a gram, while the platform scales can deviate from the real product weight by several tens of grams.
- Type of display. Two types of screens are used for today’s models. Data on LCD displays are clearly visible even in direct exposure to sunlight, which makes them a good option for street vending. LED displays are more bright and versatile, and therefore more appropriate in enclosed sales areas.
- Platform capacity. According to this feature scales are chosen based on the specific nature and size of the goods in the store or warehouse.
- Type of keyboard. Models with a push-button keyboard are more common, but the membrane keyboard is better protected against dirt and liquids, so scales with these keys are recommended for stores selling food by weight. for example, fish, meat or dairy products.

To reduce the abuse of personnel (cashiers) and reduce the incidence of incorrect entry of weight in the cash register, our specialists recommend connecting to the scales cash register.First of all, this applies to places where confectionery or bulk goods are sold.Experience suggests that in such stores, most often the cashiers abuse and give wrong information to customers weight.
Connection of electronic scales to the cash register.connection method.
We have already looked at how to connect the barcode scanner to the machine. The purpose of this article is to describe how to connect electronic scales.First of all the electronic scales must have RS-232 interface (COM-port).As in the case of the scanner, in this case, the cash register must also have the appropriate port of exchange and information.
- The physical connection of electronic scales to the cash register through a special interface cable (can be ordered in our company).Cable is unique for each pair of scales-PRO;
- set the exchange port on the EPO to work with scales.
As you can see the connection procedure is pretty simple. The only thing when buying POS and scales pay attention to their compatibility.Or consult the managers of our company. The fact that on the market trading equipment there are a lot of electronic scales with RS-232.However, the data exchange protocol scales are not known and are not prescribed in the cash register.Such models will not work. What the user receives as a result of such connection? As a result, information about the weight of the goods goes straight to the cash register and cannot be distorted. This way the misuse is practically reduced to zero.It is also possible to connect a cash register to a computer.
Specialists of PRO-SHOP company will connect the electronic scales to the cash register as soon as possible and provide a guarantee on the work performed!

How to connect electronic scales to a cash register
When you sell weighing goods at the cash register, the weight of the goods sold needs to be entered manually. Firstly, it significantly slows down the process of customer service. Secondly, it increases the chances of entering the wrong values, with unpleasant consequences for both the buyer and the accounting department. Note that the input of wrong values in the sale of goods can be done by sellers on purpose, to deceive the buyer. And these are quite different consequences.
In order to avoid problems, increase the speed and quality of customer service, and at the same time to restore order in accounting, we recommend you connect electronic cash register scales to the cash register. In this case, the seller will not need to press any additional buttons. Weighing data will go to the cash register automatically. The seller will need, as before, to select the code of the sold item. Cash register will calculate the cost of purchase.
Please note that not all trading scales can work with cash register. Often this is due to the presence of the necessary connector in the body of the scales. Therefore, when buying scales pay attention to this point. Cash register, in turn, also works with certain models of scales. Their list is specified in the technical specifications of the device, and differs greatly from model to model.
The last step in connecting the cash register to the scales is to buy a special cable. These cables are made to order and are not supplied with the cash register or scales.
Company STC. Istok provides a full range of services for the connection of any peripheral equipment to the cash register, corresponding to the technical characteristics of the required model. Get advice by phone listed in the header or in section “Contact us”. Work with professionals and your business will be under the control of reliable equipment.
How to weigh the goods
You can weigh the products before or after selecting them at the cash register. In the first case, proceed as follows:
- put the goods on the cash register,
- in the search bar enter the parameters of the search for the product. the name or barcode,
- If the price is not set in the accounting system, keep it manually:
After the software calculates the cost of weighted goods, the next item can be added to the receipt.
In the second case, the procedure changes:
- you must find the product through the search line by name or bar code,
- then enter the price per unit, if it is not in the system,
- then the products are placed in the cash register, and then you should press the “Get weight” button:
The application will calculate the price of the weighed item, after which you can add more purchases to the receipt.
When all the items are added to the receipt, it should be closed and the payment to the customer should be made.
Examples of standard sets of shop equipment
Standard kits were developed to meet different customer requirements. Standardization not only reduces the time required for commissioning and subsequent maintenance, but also helps customers to quickly determine the necessary equipment.
Next, let’s look at three standard sets of trade equipment:
- Budgetary: KKT Mercury and Scales.
- Starter: Smart terminal (“Evotor” and “Neva”) and Scales.
- Full automation: PC with pre-installed cash register software (1c, Frontol, Microinvest, and MYPOS) and scales.
To switch the transfer protocol in CAS SWN, we used the instructions from the official web page.
For our customers and partners, we even recorded video instructions on how to connect the scales and summarized the information in the table at the end of the article.
how to installed the cash register scale
Now consider the features of each connection scales in kits.
Connecting scales to the Mercury cash register
Option kit with a portable cash register Mercury works only with scales with RS232 interface.
Making settings in the cash register and connect the scales to the selected communication channel will not cause questions from the experts, the procedure for connecting and working with scales is described in the manual. The manual and all other detailed instructions can be found at any time in the public domain on the manufacturer’s website in the “Documents” section.
At the same time, the adapter for connecting the scales to the cash register is impossible to buy, it must be made by yourself, so without additional equipment and materials can’t do. We buy RS-232 9M, cut its cord in half and crimp the RJ-45 connector (or RJ-12, depending on the model of cash register) according to the diagram from the manual.
At the first time failed to make a working copy, pinout is not very clear. I had to crimp twice to get a working version, but subsequent adapters were made following the example and were always successful.
For the correct operation of the M-ER 326AFU and CAS SWN need to have the latest firmware on the cash register.
But Barry Slim 200/300 failed to connect, the available settings did not allow to adjust the work, the cash register constantly showed an error when requesting weight. According to the technical support from the manufacturer, the support protocol bar scale Slim will not be implemented in the near future.
Connecting barcode-printer scales to the computer with 1C
Install the driver of SHTRICH-PRINT scales on your computer. Download it here.
Press Set Connection button.

Connection of scales with label printing directly to 1C system
Adding scales
Go to Administration → Connected Hardware.
In a window of options go to Equipment to be connected.
There is an article on the blog about what scales can potentially be connected to 1C and what it depends on.
Setting up the connection by IP-address
Then go to Connection parameters.
Exchange and selection options
Then we return to the settings of scales. Go to exchange options.
The window with exchange rules appears. Click Create.
1) You should choose from which store the goods will be unloaded.
2) In the selection check the two conditions: ✓ Only with stock balances ✓ Only with set prices
In the main window with the addition of equipment click on Record and close.
Adjustment of the nomenclature
Go to the section Administration → nomenclature settings.
In the subsection SKU Codes check the box on the words Automatically generate SKU.
Now, when unloading, the program itself will assign the correct code to each item. Without this checkbox, the employee would have to do everything manually, which is long and inconvenient.
We also need to specify prefixesFor 1 kg goods put number 1, for piece goods put number 2.
Now let’s check that Prefixes of 1C coincided with the settings of the driver.
On the screenshot you can see that the barcode prefix for weight products is 21, the piece ones is 22. In the driver numbers are the same, excellent.
Connecting of trade equipment “Electronic scales” to 1C:BP 3
This article describes how to connect commercial equipment with the “Electronic Scales” type to 1C: BP 3.0.106.101. For those who are new to this area this article will help you get basic information about 1C: BP.
In typical 1C software products (Accounting, Trade Management, Integrated Automation, etc.).д.) There is a subsystem, responsible for connection of equipment and its operation, called “1C:BPO” (Connected Equipment Library). In 1C:BPO there are the same releases as in other configurations. BPO system is implemented in standard configurations and is updated automatically when you update a standard configuration. To view the FBS version it is necessary in the Enterprise mode of the specific configuration to open “Functions for technical specialist” and select the information register “Subsystem versions
In our example we have the task to implement “Electronic Scales” in 1C:BP 3.0.106.101. IN 1C:BP 3.0.106.101 a subsystem of 1C:BPO 3 version was implemented.1.2.16.
IN 1C:BP 3.0.106.101 in “Principle” the possibility of operation of trade equipment (TO) with “Electronic Scales” type was disabled. Disconnection is due to the fact that 1C:BP serves for accounting and tax accounting, reporting and sending it to the tax authorities.
In 1C:BPO minor revision, for example, 2.1.6.16, the functionality to connect this type of TO was reduced, but it could be enabled quite easily by adding some enumeration with the value “Electronic Scales” to one of the general modules. After that you can fully enjoy the standard functionality of BPO subsystem for this type of equipment without any problems. And for the functionality to receive data from TOs (for both Scales and other types of TOs, it seems) the “ManagerEquipmentCustomer” module was in charge.
Now in 1C:BPO revision 3.1 functionality has been greatly modified:
All of the information below will be consistent with the description of the BPO release 3.1.2.16. This description has all the detailed information on implementation of BPO for each type of merchant equipment, as well as migration from Revision 2.1. This description can be found in the 1C:BPO installation distribution package which includes the documents:
Enable the possibility of using “Electronic Scales” in the settings of the connected equipment.
To do this, you must add code to the procedure “AvailableTypes of Equipment” of the general module “ManagerEquipmentServerCalloverridden“:
Let’s add to the branch “general modules” general modules, relating to the type of TO “Electronic scales”
In the events of the form of the object (Help, Document, etc.) we will see the following actions.д.) add procedures to connect and disconnect the TO.
In the procedure of action of the button “GetWeight” on the form to get the weight you must add the following code
For tests we took floor platform scales with indicator НВТ-9 with connection via COM.port. Scale drivers received from the developer as a zip file. There was no problem installing the drivers. What is worth paying attention to. is the bit depth of the platform on the client, where these scales will be used, and in this regard, only x32.
When testing equipment connection in the settings of an instance of electronic scales 1C:BP “froze” intentionally, if you selected the wrong connection port in the settings.
Enclosed Extension for 1C:BP 3.0.106.101 with all the modifications that were described in the article, as well as the application for the tests COM.equipment port. COM test application. The port is intuitive: you specify the port, bit rate, speed and press the “Start Test” button.
