Install the water heater with their own hands photo video
Buying a water heater. it’s not all. It still needs to be installed and then connected. And connect both to the water supply and electricity. How to install the water heater depends on its type: flow or storage. Depending on the size and shape choose the place of installation. The power depends on the requirements for a power line, and the internal structure of the heater. the scheme of connecting to the water supply.
There are two large groups: flow-through and storage. Flow-through water heaters heat the water that passes through them. In this regard, have a relatively small size, but very high power. up to 24 kW, but this is the maximum. For washing the dishes and taking a shower capacity of 4-6 kW is enough, for bathing. 10-12 kW. So to connect such equipment requires a dedicated line for the power trimmer with RCD.
Accumulation water heaters are also called “boilers”, they have a tank and a small, compared to the flow-through, capacity. from 0.8 kW to 4 kW. Nevertheless, a separate line for the power trimmer is also desirable for them. The size of boilers depends on the volume of water contained in the tank. Their shape is cylindrical, and the cylinder can be positioned vertically (cheaper variant) and horizontally (more expensive).
The place to install the water heater is chosen mainly depending on the available connection conditions. Most often it is either a bathroom or a kitchen: both rooms are connected to the water. Secondly, the place is chosen for aesthetic reasons: so that the equipment is not very “conspicuous” in the eye. From this point of view usually choose a toilet or bathroom. In the presence of space, this choice is optimal.
How to install a boiler (storage water heater )
Let’s start with the installation on the wall, because that is where it is usually mounted. Empty boilers have a solid weight, and moreover, the water in them contains up to 150 liters. Therefore there are strict requirements for the mountings: they must be able to withstand twice the weight, equal to twice the capacity. That is, if you have a boiler on 80 liters, the fasteners must be able to withstand 160 kg. In this regard, it is mounted only on the base with a good carrying capacity on the anchors with hooks.
On the back wall of the water heater at the top there is a mounting plate (sometimes there are two. at the top and bottom). There are slots in it in which the hooks are inserted. This is how the boiler is hung on the wall. There are two different ways to mark where to hammer the fasteners in:
- If there are assistants and space allows you to move relatively freely, you can lean the boiler in the right place on the wall, and then circumvent the slots.
- Measure the distance at which the bar is from the top of the water heater, measure also the distance between the centers of the mounting holes. Mark all these parameters on the wall, finding the necessary points.
One nuance: if you’re going to hang the water heater from the ceiling, you need to have a gap of at least 5 cm from the top of the boiler to the ceiling. This is necessary to be able to raise it by putting it on the hooks. Otherwise you will not be able to hang the boiler.
How to connect the boiler to the water supply
We will assume that the cold water inlet is already there, as well as assembled hot water distribution header. A little bit about how to connect the boiler outputs with hot and cold water pipes. It is more convenient to use flexible hoses, but not those that are just rubber bands in a braid, but flexible corrugated stainless steel. They also have different lengths, have on the ends of cap nuts with gaskets, but their service life and reliability is several times higher. If the water heater hangs over the bathtub and all connections are located there, then even in case of a hose break you will not be in danger: the water will be in the bathtub. If not, you can flood the neighbors.
Another option. the use of plastic (polypropylene or metal-plastic) pipes. This option is used if at the same time hot water distribution is done at the distribution points. Otherwise, it is more convenient to use flexible connectors. Only when using pipes, keep in mind that for hot water put special pipes, which are usually marked in red, the pipes for cold water it may not be at all, or it has a blue/blue color.
Scheme of connection of the water heater to the plumbing
Now directly about the scheme of connecting the boiler to the water supply. Although modern water heaters are often equipped with automation, periodically, during heating there is a sharp jump in pressure, which can lead to a breach of tightness of the container. To avoid surges, a safety valve is installed on the cold water inlet pipe. When the threshold value is exceeded, it opens a tap and drains some of the water, equalizing the pressure. So when you install the faucet, make sure that the outlet (small nozzle) point downwards. If you want your boiler to work long, put this valve necessarily.
It is convenient if it has a second function. it also works as a check valve, cutting off the outflow of water if there is no pressure in the system.
If you look at the photo, there is an arrow on the body, which shows the direction of water flow. If there is such a hand, the device also works as a check valve, not allowing the water to flow out. If there is no arrow, you also have to put a check valve (above the safety valve).
About what functions the safety valve performs, and how to install it is better if it is not above the bathtub, see video.
Another mandatory part of the scheme. shut-off valves. They are usually placed on the branch from the riser of hot and cold water. These valves are mandatory. Sometimes put even before the safety group, but they are no longer mandatory, and serve only for more convenient repair.
Safety group is a coarse filter and pressure reducer. If these devices are not at the entrance to the house or apartment, it is very desirable to install them: they prolong the life of the water heater.
Explanation of the boiler connection diagram, see video, here are the typical mistakes in connecting to the water supply.
How to connect the water heater to the electricity
All water heater manufacturers recommend to include boilers to electricity to a separate line from the fuse box, which is installed double automatic circuit breaker and RCD, Please note that the automatic must be double. that is, one that breaks both phase and zero. Grounding is also mandatory. These measures ensure safety, so do not neglect them.
How to install the water heater: wiring diagram
Instead of RCD-Automatic device bonding you can put a Difavtmate. It will also monitor both the leakage current and short circuit, but is made in one body. On a medium power boiler is enough circuit breaker for 16 A, and RCD leakage current of 10 mA. Cross section of copper wire (monofilament) is sufficient 2.5 mm.
How to connect the boiler (water heater) of indirect heating
Hot water in the faucets is no longer a luxury. Today it is one of the mandatory requirements of normal life. One of the possibilities of hot water supply of a private home. install and connect the boiler indirect heating.
Water heater or indirect exchange boiler is a tank with water in which the heat exchanger (coil or water jacket type. cylinder in cylinder) is placed. The heat exchanger is connected to the heating boiler or any other system in which hot water or other coolant circulates.
Heating is simple: hot water from the boiler passes through the heat exchanger, it heats the walls of the heat exchanger, and they, in turn, transfer the heat to the water in the tank. Since the heating is not direct, then this water heater is called “indirect heating”. The heated water as required is consumed for household needs.
One of the important parts in this design is a magnesium anode. It reduces the intensity of corrosion processes. the tank lasts longer.
There are two types of indirect heating boilers: with built-in control and without. Indirect heating boilers with integrated control are connected to the heating system running from boilers without control. They have a built-in temperature sensor, its own control, which turns on / off the flow of hot water into the coil. When connecting this type of equipment, all that is needed is to connect to the appropriate inputs of supply and return from the heating system, connect the cold water supply and connect the hot water distribution pipe to the upper output. That’s all, you can fill the tank and start heating it.
Conventional indirect heating boilers work mainly with automated boilers. During installation it is necessary to install the temperature sensor in a certain place (there is a hole in the body) and link it to a certain input of the boiler. Further make boiler piping indirect heating according to one of the schemes. You can connect them and energy-independent boilers, but this requires a special circuit (see below).
That it should be remembered that the water in the indirect heating boiler can be heated just below the temperature of the coolant circulating in the coil. So if you have a low-temperature boiler and outputs, say, 40 ° C, the maximum temperature of water in the tank will be so. You can not heat it more than that. To get around this limitation, there are combination water heaters. They have a coil and built-in heating element. The main heating in this case comes by coil (indirect heating), and the heating element only brings the temperature to a predetermined temperature. Also these systems are great with solid fuel boilers. the water will be warm even when the fuel is burned.
What else can be said about the design features? In large volume indirectors install multiple heat exchangers. this reduces the time of water heating. For reduction of time of heating of water and for slower cooling down of a tank, it is better to choose models with thermal isolation.
Which boilers can be connected to
Indirect heating boilers can work with any source of hot water. Will suit any water-heating boiler. solid fuel. on wood, coal, briquettes, pellets. You can connect any type of gas boiler, electric or liquid fuel boiler.
Scheme of connection to the gas boiler with a special output for the boiler indirect heating
Simply, as written above, there are models with their own control, and then their installation and piping. a simpler task. If the model is simple, you have to think through a system of temperature control and switching the boiler from heating radiators to heating hot water.
Shapes of tanks and installation methods
Indirect heating boiler can be installed on the floor, can. mounted on the wall. Wall-mounted versions have a capacity of no more than 200 liters, and the floor-standing can hold up to 1,500 liters. In both cases there are horizontal and vertical models. When installing the wall version, the mounting is standard. brackets, which are mounted on wall plugs of the appropriate type.
If we talk about the form, then most often these devices are made in the form of a cylinder. In almost all models all the working conclusions (branch pipes for connections) are led out the back. It is easier to connect, and the appearance is better. On the obverse part of the panel there are places to install a temperature sensor or thermostat, some models have the ability to install a heating element. for additional reheating water if the lack of heating power.
According to the type of installation they are wall and floor, the capacity. from 50 liters to 1500 liters
When installing the system, it is worth remembering that the system will only work effectively if the boiler power is sufficient.
Circuits and connection details
There are two principles of connection of the indirect heating boiler: with the priority of heating hot water and without. In heating with priority, the entire heating medium is pumped through the heat exchanger of the boiler if necessary. Heating does not take long. As soon as the temperature reaches the set point (controlled by a sensor, thermostatic valve or thermostat relay), the entire flow is sent back to the radiators.
In schemes without priority water heating, only some part of the coolant flow is directed to the indirect water heater. This causes the water to heat for a longer period of time.
When connecting an indirect heating boiler it is better to choose the scheme with priority. it provides hot water in the required quantity. In this case the heating does not suffer very much. for heating the entire volume of water is usually enough for 20-40 minutes, and to maintain the temperature at the flow in general 3-8 minutes. During this time, no house can cool down enough to feel the effects of the heat expansion. But this is on condition that the boiler capacity is comparable to the boiler capacity. Ideally, the boiler is more productive, with a 25-30% margin.
To ensure the normal operation of all appliances connected to the hot water comb, expansion tank for hot water (not for heating) is installed at the boiler outlet. Its volume is 10% of the tank volume. It is necessary to neutralize the thermal expansion.
Detailed wiring diagram of the indirect water heater
Also in each branch of the connection are installed shut-off valves (ball valves). They are needed so that every device. three-way valve, circulation pump, etc can be turned on and off.п Disconnect and service if necessary.
On the supply pipes are usually also installed check valves. They are needed to eliminate the possibility of countercurrent. In this case, the connection of the indirect heating boiler will be safe and easy to service.
Installation next to the boiler in a system with forced circulation (with 3-way valve)
If the system already has a circulating pump, and it is installed on the supply, and the boiler forced heating can be put next to the boiler, it is better to organize a separate loop that comes from the heating boiler. This connection of the indirect water heater is realized with most wall mounted gas or other boilers, where the circulation pump is on the supply pipe. This connection scheme means that the heater and the heating system are connected in parallel.
If there is a pump in the supply pipeline and a water heater located near the boiler
In this method of fitting out after the circulation pump is set three-way valve controlled by a temperature sensor (mounted on the boiler). One of the outlets of the three-way valve is connected to the boiler pipe to connect the heating. A T-piece is cut into the return pipe before entering the boiler, a pipe for water removal from the heat exchanger is connected to it. The connection to the heating system is actually finished.
- Upon receipt of information from the sensor that the water temperature is below the set temperature, the three-way valve switches the coolant to the boiler. The heating system is turned off.
- The entire coolant flow goes through the heat exchanger, the water in the tank is heated.
- Water is sufficiently heated, three-way valve redirects the coolant to the heating system.
As you can see, the scheme is simple, its operation is also clear.
Scheme with two circulation pumps
When installing the water heater in the system in the circulation pump, but not next to it, and at some distance, it is better to install a circulating pump in the circuit on the water heater. Connecting the indirect water heater for this case is shown in the diagram below.
Connection to a boiler with automatic control
The circulation pump can be installed on either the supply or return connection. In this scheme there is no three-way valve, the circuit is connected via standard T-pieces. The heating medium flow is switched by switching the pumps on and off, and is controlled by a temperature sensor, which has two pairs of contacts.
If the water in the tank is colder than the set on the sensor, the circuit of the circulating pump in the boiler circuit is switched on. When the set degree of heating is reached, the contacts of the pump, which pumps coolant into the heating system, are closed.
Scheme for energy-independent boiler
The scheme with energy-independent boiler to ensure the priority of the boiler, it is desirable that it is higher than the radiators. That is, in this case it is desirable to install wall-mounted models. Ideally, the bottom of the indirect heater is located above the boiler and radiators. But this arrangement is not always possible.
Schemes will also work when the boiler is located on the floor, but the water will warm up more slowly and in the lower part of it will not be hot enough. Its temperature will be comparable to the degree of heating of the return pipe, that is, the reserve of hot water will be less.
With energy-independent heating coolant movement is due to the force of gravity. In principle, you can connect an indirect water heater by the traditional scheme. with a circulating pump in the loop for heating. Simply in this case, when the electricity is off there will be no hot water. If you are not satisfied with such a twist, there are several schemes that will work with gravity systems.
Scheme of connection of the indirect heating water heater in the gravitational system
When implementing this scheme, the circuit that goes to the water heater, make a pipe with a diameter of 1 step more than the heating. This ensures the priority.
Important installation details
Where it is preferable to install an electric boiler, and what conditions must be met for the correct and safe operation of the device:
- Free access to the boiler and control units of the appliance for repair or maintenance of nodes.
- The heater can only be mounted on a load-bearing wall or a partition that can support double the weight. Approximately it looks like this. if the boiler has a 100-liter tank, the wall must be able to withstand at least 200 kg of weight.
- Electrical wiring of the room must be able to withstand the full load, so if the apartment is old, it is easier to lay a new powerful cable to the boiler, necessarily with a grounding wire. As an example, for a 2 kW water heater needs a copper wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm2, or aluminum wire with a cross section of 3.5 mm2.
- Water pipes must be in good condition. if you have doubts about this condition, it is better to change the pipes immediately by installing a metal-plastic pipe.
Wiring diagram from the boiler to the consumer devices.
Before you start installing the boiler with your own hands, stock up on the necessary tools and material:
- Hammer drill with 10 mm diameter, tape measure, metal and plastic pipe scissors or angle grinder.
- A wrench 24 x 27, 19 x 22, a gas wrench or adjustable wrench.
- Flat and Phillips screwdriver, pliers, and wire cutters.
- Oiled gasket, assembly paste or FUM tape.
- Stop valves. One for the storage tank and 2 for the flow-through tank.
- A few tees ½ inch in diameter, depending on the type of boiler. ½-inch to ¾-inch adapters may be needed.
- Flexible reinforced hoses.
- Metal-plastic pipe. the length of the pipe is calculated on the spot.
If you need to replace electrical wiring or lay a new power line for the trimmer, you’ll need:
Now you can install the boiler and install the pipes and valves.
Connection to the network
Before turning on the electric water heater for the first time fill the tank with water. Open the water heater inlet and outlet valves for this purpose.
Switch on the power supply for the water heater through the socket or the circuit breaker in the house panel. Check the circuit breaker for proper functioning. Use a tester for this purpose. Start heating using the temperature regulator, the color indication should appear on the device panel.
Record the initial reading of the temperature sensor, then check it every 15 minutes. The temperature indicates a correct installation. Wait for the full heating of the water in the tank, check the heating time and temperature to ensure that they meet the manufacturer’s stated values.
After reaching the set temperature check that the thermostat switches off heating independently. In the process also control the operation of the safety valve.
Through it should leave the excess water during thermal expansion, so that the body does not explode from excessive pressure.
If all the design elements of the electric water heater during the first start-up, work with the parameters declared by the manufacturers in the data sheet, the boiler can be left in the automatic mode.
Connection features of the flow heater
Unlike a storage boiler, a flow-through heater is designed to heat the water flow, but not its static volume.
Therefore, flow heaters are usually smaller in size, and it is much easier to include them in the plumbing system.
Place a flow heater is usually closer to the place of use of hot water so it does not have time to cool in the process of passing through the pipes.
It is easiest to put such a device on a faucet that has a shower outlet. To do this, remove the shower head and connect the heater hose to the vacant part of the mixer, which should flow cold water.
Now instead of a shower in the bathroom is an additional source of hot water, which connects if necessary. The device is easy to dismantle and install again, if necessary.
But this is not always convenient, because using the shower with this method of installation is somewhat difficult.
The illustration shows the options for connecting a flow heater to the water supply. You can use the heater in the kitchen or shower bath
Another option to include a flow heater in the system. through the outlet designed for the washing machine.
First, a tee is placed on the branch pipe, which is sealed with FUM-tape or flax.
Then install a faucet, which will allow you to open/close the water flowing to the heater, as well as to regulate its flow.
Since with this type of connection the faucet will have to be used often, it is important to put it in a convenient place. After that, from the faucet bring the structure to the flow heater. The easiest way to do this is with a flexible hose, which is recommended to be fixed with special clips
But you can also use pipes: metal, polypropylene, metal-plastic, etc.п
It is most convenient to do this with a flexible hose, which is recommended to fix with special brackets. But you can also use pipes: metal, polypropylene, metal-plastic, etc.п.
Inserting a T-piece into the water pipe
Depending on the material of the water pipes, you will have to do one or the other kind of work.
Ideally, these pipes are better replaced with plastic. polypropylene. They are just as good, but they don’t get rusty, and they are easier to work with. If you’re not going to do this, you have to do the following:
- Cut a piece of pipe that corresponds to the length of the tee;
- Cut the threads on the remaining pipe ends;
- Wrap the external thread with fum-tape;
- Install the tee.
You need to use a tee with clamping nuts. To cut it in, you need to do the following steps:
- Cut a piece of pipe at the location of the tee;
- Put compression nuts on the remaining ends of the tubing;
- Roll out the tubes to the desired diameter;
- Install a tee fitting and secure it with nuts.
You will need a special tool for the flare. It is quite expensive and you are unlikely to use it often. It is better to rent one.
Polypropylene pipes (solder)
Here you need a plastic fitting, not a metal one. Thread type (male or female). not important. The main thing is to match the diameter and pitch of the hose. To install a tee fitting you need to:
- Cut a piece of pipe with the remaining ends going into the tee;
- Clean dirt and dust from the surface of the pipe and tee;
- Install the tee and solder it.
Plastic tees with female and male threads.
Plastic pipes (glue)
Such pipes are rare, but still worth mentioning. As in the previous case you will need a tee with a thread. To install it, you need to:
- Cut a piece of water pipe, taking into account that the remaining parts will go into a tee;
- Clean and degrease the glued surfaces;
- Apply glue and install the tee.
Connecting the boiler to the water and to the power supply
How to properly connect the boiler to the water supply in the apartment at the stage of connection to the mains?
- Prepare a cable, preferably a new one, and conduct it to the main source of supply, this will help to avoid emergencies in the process of heating the liquid;
- Make the connection according to the colors of the braid;
- Do not use pipes that are designed for gas or water conductors for grounding;
- If the indicator of water properties is not satisfactory in relation to consumer norms, you need to buy and install a filter with a coarse filter, otherwise the unit will quickly fail.
In general, the connection of the boiler follows one standard scheme. Note that all work should begin only after the water supply is shut off.
Now we will tell you how to properly connect the boiler with your own hands and provide step-by-step instructions, which will apply to the liquid supply.
Cold supply is carried out through the system from top to bottom:
- The most elementary and high-quality type of connection is the installation of “American”. If it will be necessary to remove the unit, it will be possible to do the disconnection from the water supply in just a few steps.
- You can install a brass tee next to the liquid drain valve. This element is not a prerequisite for the installation process, but it is a quality and long-lasting option that is ideal if it is necessary to drain the liquid from the unit.
- The placement of the system, which provides reliable safety, is very important. This system includes a return valve, which helps prevent hot water from draining from the unit if the pressure drops, and protective pipe fittings. The latter is used to protect the system from increased pressure inside. This valve is used to release the excess water, thereby reducing the pressure.
It’s hard to overstate the importance of safety. For example, if a non-return valve is not installed, when the liquid supply is turned off, the tank will empty and the heater will continue to heat. All of this will cause the system to malfunction.
Equally important for the proper functioning of the system is the fuse. Suppose that the thermostat in the unit broke, in which case, the heaters will stop turning off, and the temperature of the liquid inside can reach up to 100 degrees. The pressure in the unit will quickly build up and all of this will cause the structure to explode.
Now let’s take a look at the hot liquid outlet, which runs from top to bottom.
Note that each connection must be made using a sealant.
Threading can be carried out using different types of pipes: metal plastic, thermoplastic polymer and metal.
The easiest way of incision is the one that uses a metal-plastic pipe. In the desired location, the pipe is cut with a cutter and using fittings, a disconnector is mounted into it, the operation of which will be designed to supply the liquid. However, this method is used very rarely, as the pipes lose their attractiveness, their appearance does not look elegant enough, and their operating life is not long enough.
Connection with more complicated work is the one that uses a thermoplastic polymer, but at the same time, compared to the previous option, this one is more reliable. The connecting element with a tee is connected to the pipe by using a special soldering iron. After the fragment of the pipe will be cut it is necessary to monitor the correct ratio of all elements, otherwise connect the tee will not work.
You need special skills in the work tie-in in the iron pipe. If there is a chance to make a threading, a tee can be installed at the expense of plumbing fittings or connectors. If the pipes are placed in such a way that it is impossible to use a die for cutting, you can use a special connector with additional threading.
Work with this element consists of the following steps:
- The pipe should be carefully deburred;
- Together mortise drill a slot, the dimensions of which will correspond to the connector in the socket;
- the clamp is mounted with a rubber gasket and secured with bolts. The holes must be identical.
Broken Pipe Thread. Use a nipple extractor!
Checking the correctness of operation and connection of the water heater in the apartment
When the connection of the unit to the water supply and electricity has been completed, it is necessary to check how correctly the installation works. To do this you need to fill the unit with liquid, and in the process of filling it, check how tightly made connections.
- Open the hot liquid supply tap, in order to remove air from the boiler tank;
- Open the stop valve in the supply line;
- When the supply of liquid begins, you must carefully review all the made joints for leaks, if any are found, they must be eliminated before the tank is filled with water.
- Perhaps for someone, fixing such a unit, and especially its connection to the communications will seem time-consuming and incomprehensible work. All you need to do is to plug it in and enjoy your bath.
That is, to install the boiler is not as difficult as it may seem at first glance. The most important is to follow all instructions and take into account the rules of safety in the process of connecting technology to the utilities, so that further use does not lead to unpleasant “surprises.
Boiler connection diagrams, installation process
They should be divided into 2 subdivisions and considered separately:
First of all, when installing the boiler you should make sure that there is a shutoff valve in the water supply line in front of it to be able to disconnect from the water system for maintenance and possible replacement in the future.
If the boiler, in addition to the cold water system, connects to the system with hot water, it also puts a stop valve, so there is no drainage of water heated in it into the main network. When the boiler is running, it is kept closed.
Also after the tap on the cold line will be useful to install a reducer, reducing the pressure to 2. 3 atm., which will be quite enough for normal operation of the system. But the device itself it will protect against overpressure. Before the cold water inlet of the boiler, it is advisable to install a second valve so that the whole system cannot be shut off for any further manipulations on the appliance.
For closed pressure boilers it is obligatory to install a safety valve as part of the delivery of a new appliance. Firstly, it does not let the heated water back into the cold pipe, and secondly, it discharges the excess water that has expanded after heating. Without it the operation of such boilers can lead to explosive consequences. Put such a valve in the standard schemes of connection directly before the cold water inlet in the boiler, and the drain pipe is derived at the nearest point of entry to the sewer. If the boiler is installed above the toilet bowl, it is derived in a free hole in the upper part of the toilet cistern. There are always 2: for ease of tank connection, and one of them is free.
To help. a video about the mistakes made when connecting the boiler:
A more advanced scheme of connecting the boiler includes the installation of a T-piece with a valve over the safety valve. It allows you to drain the boiler in case of emergency or use the boiler as a water storage tank in case of emergency.
The main thing when draining it is necessary to disable heating, otherwise the heating elements can fail. On the most rational improvement of the system by installing such a tee with a faucet. in the following
Such a tee is placed only on the cold line, because its input is at the bottom of the boiler, and the hot intake pipe. at the top.
Often the piping system is hidden in the wall in the wall tuck or even displayed behind it. in a utility room or closet, leaving only a safety valve visible.
Connection diagram of the kitchen boiler does not differ from that of a regular boiler, but most often inverted.
Electrical connection is carried out by wires with an appropriate boiler power section. For this purpose there are 2 contacts on the boiler.
The third one is led to the mass of the casing of the hot water heater or the outer casing of the boiler itself. Usually in apartments there is no grounding system to which it should be connected. In this case you should perform the following wiring diagram.
In it, RCD will perform the role of grounding, but to pick it up without exceeding the rating, otherwise it can not cope with the task in full.
There is only one rule when hanging the water heater on the wall: make sure that it is adequately supported in accordance with the total weight of the water in the water heater. Choose it according to the material of the wall on which the boiler is to be installed and make sure that there is at least a load capacity of one and a half times that of the wall to which the boiler is to be attached.
Safety valve of the water heater
The safety valve combines two functions:
1-Return valve, that means it lets the water pass only in one direction, to the boiler. This is necessary to prevent spontaneous water drainage from the tank, e.g. when turning off the cold water, to prevent burnout of the boiler heating element.
2-Pressure relief valve. When water heats up in the boiler, the pressure rises, if it exceeds the permissible value, a small part of the water will be discharged through the valve. Therefore, it is better to carry out in advance the removal of water from the pressure valve into the sewer with a rubber hose. Usually this valve is included in the delivery of the water heater. There are two types: with and without a flag. Flag allows to manually bleed water from the boiler, but its capacity is very small, and if the tank capacity is large, it will take several hours to bleed water through the safety valve. For convenience and speeding up the process of draining water, the drain cock 6.
The flag of a safety valve is often fixed by the screw and a question arises whether to unscrew it or not, whether it does not affect functioning of the valve. Answer: this is a protection against accidental manual opening of the valve, e.g. from children. The functioning of the valve in automatic mode is not affected. You can not unscrew. If you need to use the valve to drain the water or for maintenance, the screw is removed.
Installation of a safety valve when installing the boiler is mandatory, also an ordinary check valve must not be installed instead. In this case, the second function is not performed and the water heater can simply burst!
The boiler can be put into operation by turning several valves. Sometimes it is difficult to determine in which position the valve is now. open or closed. this can be easily seen by the position of the butterfly valve or the lever.
- Faucet closed. butterfly valve or lever is located across the axis of the valve, as if blocking the direction of water flow.
- Crane is open. the handgrip is positioned along the crane axis.
Connection features of the flow heater
Unlike the storage water heater flow heater is designed to heat the flow of water, but not its static volume.
That is why flow heaters are usually smaller in size, and to include them in the plumbing is much easier.
Place the flow heater is usually close to where you use hot water so that it does not have time to cool in the process of passing through the pipes.
It is easiest to put such a device on a faucet with a shower outlet. To do this, remove the shower head and connect the heater hose to the vacant part of the faucet, which should flow cold water.
Now instead of a shower in the bathroom there is an additional source of hot water, which is connected if necessary. The device can be easily dismantled and re-installed if necessary.
But it is not always convenient, because using the shower with this method of installation is somewhat difficult.
The figure shows options for connecting a flow heater to the water supply. You can use the heater in the kitchen or in the bathroom for showers
System Ground Video
Another option to include a flow heater in the system. through the outlet designed for a washing machine.
First, a tee is placed on the branch pipe, which is sealed with FUM tape or linen.
Then install a crane, which will allow you to open/close the water flowing to the heater, as well as to regulate its flow.
Since this method of connection will have to use the faucet often, it is important to put it in a convenient place. After that, from the faucet bring the structure to the flow heater.
It is most convenient to do this with a flexible hose, which is recommended to fix with special clips. But you can also use pipes: metal, polypropylene, metal-plastic, etc.п.

Before you connect the boiler in the house or apartment, you need to understand what kind of water heater is right for you. In order to make the right choice, you need to familiarize yourself with all the variations:
Accumulation water heater for plumbing, working on electricity. Such a device is able to heat water to a temperature of 55 to 75 degrees automatically
It is important to note that it consumes very little electricity, because the process of heating water takes place gradually. Accumulation water heaters are characterized by their versatility
That is why they can be installed in any room.
Flow-through water heater. The work of such a boiler is based on the fact that the water is heated directly as it flows through the faucet. The main advantage of such a device is its mobility. The second, no less important advantage is that the process of heating water is almost instantaneous
It is important to note that such a heater can be installed either in a single water point, or have a distribution to all water consumers. This depends directly on the capacity of the device
Indirect water heater. Such a heater can provide a continuous supply of hot water for all consumers simultaneously. Such a device has a fairly low coefficient of heat loss. The design of such a device does not include a heat source. The role of the coolant is played by an external heat source. Heating boilers are most often used as sources of heat.
Reasons for self-installation of the device
Installation with their own hands of the device, directly connected with the water supply system and electrical network. a responsible and serious matter, so inexperienced users are better to trust professionals.
However, there are several reasons that allow for self-installation:
- Lack of money to pay for services;
- The need for urgent installation of the device;
- The desire to learn and acquire new skills (better under the supervision of a specialist);
- The prospect of repair or replacement.
Of course, if you yourself understand the structure of the water heater, study the instructions and install it, later the repair or replacement of worn parts will become a usual thing.
In addition, there are special circumstances in life that force you to learn to do everything with your own hands. For example, living in a remote farmstead, from which the nearest service center is more than 300 km.
