How to build an oven into a column

Installing the gas oven rules for installing the gas oven

Before you choose a built-in oven, you need to follow certain requirements, compliance with which will avoid dangerous situations:

  • Near the oven should not be flammable and combustible materials (kitchen curtains, towels, rags, oil).
  • The furniture in the near zone of the oven must be able to withstand an increase in ambient air temperature by 50 C.
  • Ovens and hobs should never be placed close to fridges or freezers.
  • The oven must be located away from water sources in the kitchen.
  • The electric oven must be close to a grounded power outlet, set at a height of more than 10 cm. from the floor.

When determining where to place the oven in the kitchen and at what height, consider the following placement options:

Traditional placement of the oven, with the location of the hob above the oven is not mandatory. This option is most often used in small kitchens with few work surfaces, and has no alternative for small.

Column cabinets

This layout is often used in spacious kitchens where there is enough space to install additional tall units.

When deciding at what height to place the oven, the following must be taken into consideration. A high positioned oven offers a number of advantages: it is easier to clean and maintain, it is safe for small children, and it is easier to get food out and monitor the cooking process.

The frame

In a spacious kitchen with a hob placed in the middle, it would be logical to install the oven in the frame directly. Option is most suitable in families without small children and infrequent cooking.

In a tall cabinet

Very convenient place to install the oven in the edge of the cabinet. It is not possible to use the surface of the cabinet as a working area, but it is possible to install a microwave oven, various appliances and kitchen accessories.

It should be noted that this arrangement is quite often used in the home for medium-sized kitchens, where there is no shortage of working surfaces, but there is also no lack of. In this case, you can consider it optimal.

Mounting the cabinet in different surfaces

There are two main types of gas hoses on sale:

Gas hoses are sold in different lengths, before buying determine what length you need.

Rubber gas hoses are the easiest and cheapest, which is probably why they are the most common. But rubber hoses are poorly protected against mechanical influences, the recommended service life of 5 years.

Polymer gas hoses in a steel braid were previously widespread, but in many cities and countries they are prohibited for use. From water hoses, they are distinguished visually by yellow stripes in the braid.

Bellows gas hose is safer and more durable than rubber gas hoses, there are mentions of lifespans of up to 25 years. Produce bellows hoses of stainless steel, on the ends of the hose nozzles threaded with paronite gaskets. The hose is easy to bend, can withstand up to 6 atmospheres of pressure and temperature from.50 to 200 degrees C. This is the variant of my choice and I.

Bellows gas hose with a protective coating is a model of bellows hose, which is protected by a layer of polymer coating.

The choice of location for installing a recessed with their own hands electric oven should be approached with the utmost responsibility. In this case, in addition to observing the basic rules of electrical and fire safety, you need to ensure normal conditions for the work of the oven and take care that it does not interfere with the functioning of other appliances located in the kitchen.

A far from complete list of recommendations is as follows:

  • Curtains, towels, paper products and other flammable items should not be in close proximity to the oven;
  • furniture elements in contact with the cabinet must be able to withstand a temperature of 50 oC without damage;
  • location of the oven close to the refrigerator or freezer is not allowed;
  • It is desirable to install the oven as far away as possible from water sources;
  • to ensure natural air circulation, it is necessary to provide clearances of at least 90 mm at the bottom, 40-50 mm for the sides and back of the oven;
  • On the side of the installation place, at least 10 cm above the floor, there must be a grounded electric socket which is easy to reach.

Dimensioning ratio when connecting the oven

Important! The socket must be rated for at least 40 amps. If this is not the case. make a replacement. Before you build a new oven with your own hands, you should decide on the place of its installation. The most convenient locations of the ovens:

  • In the cabinet under the worktop. And the cooktop doesn’t have to be next to it at all. This placement is optimal for small kitchens with limited worktop space;
  • Column cabinets. This option is good for spacious rooms. The niche designed for the oven can be positioned at eye level for easy supervision of the cooking process and to keep hot surfaces away from children;
  • In the frame. Many housewives find it convenient and natural to install the oven in the supporting structures of the hob, standing in the center of the kitchen area;
  • In a tall cabinet. In a medium-sized kitchen, it is possible to install the oven into the cabinet at the end of the worktop.

Craftsman tips

Before you buy such appliances, you must remember about the compatibility of such devices with the electrical wiring in the house. Choose a hob must be of suitable power, otherwise you will have to change the entire wiring. The supply electric cable must not come into contact with the casing of the hob and the oven, and the connection must be safely earthed.

There is a false belief that the waves emitted by such equipment, badly affect the work of other household appliances. As mentioned above, the effect of magnetic radiation does not extend beyond three centimeters. In addition, the stove is equipped with a special screen. thermal plugs. So the worries about the built-in oven, especially if it is electric, are unfounded.

Tip! Keep in mind the possible negative effects of induction stove radiation on cell phones and television antennas.

Features and benefits of a kitchen with built-in oven

The cabinet under the oven is a design designed to install the oven in it. It can either be part of a furniture set or bought separately.

The advantages of the interior of the kitchen with a built-in oven include:

  • external appeal. such an interior looks much more elegant than a kitchen with a conventional oven;
  • Saving useful space;
  • The opportunity to organize a “working triangle” (the zone for cooking) as convenient to the owners of the house;
  • practicality. such furniture often combines several functions at once. For example, it can serve as a storage system.

But such a solution has features that must be taken into account when choosing:

  • the cost of built-in appliances in a set with the furniture is higher than traditional;
  • in the case of rearrangement or failure of appliances can be problematic: the oven will have to be replaced along with the cabinet, as it will be difficult to find a suitable size design. usually the furniture is matched to the technique, not vice versa.

What it is and why it is needed?

A cabinet with a built-in oven in the kitchen composition

A convenient, modern and practical option for the kitchen is a kitchen set with built-in hob and oven. Such appliances are generally of a split design. The hob is built directly into the worktop. For the oven requires a separate place, but it can not put it on the floor. The box for the oven is required.

Built-in oven under the hob, matched to the color of the kitchen interior

Its essence is that instead of a conventional cabinet in the kitchen set a place for the oven. It’s usually installed under the hob, but you can choose anywhere you like.

Convenient placement of the built-in oven at a height for ease of use

The box for the oven is a mandatory element in the kitchen, if the unit itself is a recessed type.

Connecting built-in appliances in special boxes

Requirements

Wooden furniture is suitable for the installation of electrical and gas appliances. Metal surfaces will cause electric shocks if the appliance is not connected correctly (insufficient grounding). Ovens are installed so that the distance to the back wall is more than 4 centimeters, the sides. 5 centimeters, the floor. 9 centimeters. If the appliance is mounted under the hob, then there must be at least two centimeters of free space between these devices.

Ovens must be aligned horizontally. Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to a rapid breakdown of the appliance. Lack of level causes uneven heat distribution inside the oven.

Choice of installation location

As for the preparation of the installation place, you need to think in advance where to put the oven. Often use the classic location of the device, when the oven is under the stove. But nowadays it is possible to break standards and use the rule based on the ergonomic arrangement of furniture and the ease of use of appliances. On this basis, the oven can be placed above the worktop. As a result, the kitchen will meet the new popular trend, and control the process of cooking will be much easier.

Having determined the space, you need to think about preparing a niche for the equipment in the kitchen. This should be done even before buying a built-in oven. All the usual dimensions of the ovens allow for easy installation in the kitchen. It is important to accurately determine the dimensions of the niche. The presence of even the smallest misalignment can cause damage to electronic parts and improper thermal distribution.

Gaps are necessary between the stove and the niche to prevent overheating of the furniture, which could cause a fire. They will help to create good ventilation. At the back of the appliance you need to leave a gap of 5 cm, on the sides 4 cm and at the bottom 9 cm.

In a cabinet under the worktop

To build an oven with your own hands, you need to prepare the space where the oven will be installed.

build, oven, column

When the device is installed under the countertop, the procedure is as follows:

  • in accordance with the dimensions of the selected model in the surface cut a hole;
  • To eliminate chipping, the edges are processed with an electric jigsaw when cutting, the protective tape is glued to the outside;
  • the docked edge of the hole is treated with sealant, which prevents swelling and delamination when water gets on it;
  • The oven is installed in the prepared hole.

Column cabinets

It’s worth breaking accepted standards in the arrangement of furniture and giving priority to the convenience of using appliances. On this basis, you can put the oven above the countertop itself, for example, in a cabinet-column. As a result, the kitchen will be modern, it will be easier to monitor the cooking, it will also make it easier to care for the appliances.

This option is not bad for spacious rooms. You can place the niche for the oven at eye level, making cooking easier and keeping hot surfaces away from children.

Into a tall cabinet

With the release of the first independent built-in oven, manufacturers immediately suggested placing the appliance on high, because this installation option simplifies the subsequent use of the device. Install a built-in oven with their own hands in a tall cabinet is not difficult.

High positioning of the ovens has the following advantages:

  • No need to bend over often to check the readiness of food;
  • The device will not be accessible to small children;
  • it’s much easier to get the dishes out of the oven.

In addition to coordinating the appearance of the cabinet with the oven, you need to choose a design that can withstand the weight of the device, as well as the heat impact from it.

The island

Almost all housewives find it convenient to install the oven in the standing in the center of the kitchen area. In this place it is very comfortable to cook food and open the door of the appliances. However, only owners of spacious kitchen-dining rooms can implement such a variant.

When choosing a place for the future installation of the built-in oven, you need to take into account:

How to mount in a corner

Often in the kitchen in a corner area is a sink. In fact, it’s better to install the sink closer to the door or near a window to increase lighting. Loose corner after re-installing the sink can be equipped with an oven.

The oven can be installed at any convenient level, but with this arrangement you need to pay attention to the free opening/closing of the door.

Hob and oven

The cooktop can be built anywhere you like

A typical question from a buyer of a new kitchen set: “And in what cabinet shall we build the cooker??”. Any. The hob is only built into the countertop, so it doesn’t matter if there’s a hinged door, drawer or nothing underneath. And it doesn’t necessarily mean that the oven has to be placed directly under the cooking cabinet. Yes, this is the most popular zoning option, but only because the average small kitchen simply has nowhere else to put the oven, or only one specific place remains for cooking.

Some exception is the gas cooktop. its special device, connection and air exchange do require a little space under the countertop. In all other cases the cooker can be installed either in the island or in the remote bar top.

You can put an oven next to the fridge

We were all taught that “hot” with “cold” is not allowed. a fire hazard. And really, if you have a good old-fashioned Dream oven in your kitchen, its heat is quite capable of damaging your fridge. But modern built-in ovens are equipped with a powerful ventilation system. It prevents not just the fridge next to it, but even the cupboard cabinet holding the oven from getting too hot. And in general.

Gas cooktops save on electricity, but electric models are safer to use. Induction hobs are convenient to use, but many people refuse to buy, considering that they are harmful to health. Different types of cooker hobs have their own peculiarities.

Cabinetry Basics Part 1

Gas

Gas cooktops are equipped with 2-5 burners. The fifth is installed in the central part and is elliptical in shape to be able to put the appropriate size cookware on it.

Modern models have a handy handle on the ignition of electronically controlled: in order to light a fire, just one turn of the handle.

The hob surface is made of stainless steel metal, ceramic glass or tempered glass.

When turning on the standard burners, the owner of the hob sees a single row of flame, but for other burners lights double and triple row. “double crown” and “triple crown”. The last two types are necessary for large burners, so that the bottom of the pot heats evenly.

Electric

The models that work with electricity are equipped with cast iron “pancakes. Modern hobs have an accelerated heating function and are marked in the form of red circles in the center of the panel. The timer allows you to set the cooking time. There are other additional features that occur not only in hobs, but also in glass ceramic electric stoves: an internal memory that records the parameters of power and heating time of burners, and an alarm clock.

Panels in the middle price range have heaters, which, when reaching the limit of heating, switch to stationary mode, engaging the heater with a white circle in the center.

The hob has a glass ceramic or enamel coating, and it is often made of stainless steel.

Induction

The efficiency of the induction stove is much higher than that of gas and electric counterparts (it simply sends energy only to the cookware, without “dissipating” heat and without wasting power). Therefore, under the same conditions such a stove will perform the task faster and better.

Instead of a band heater, the model has an electromagnetic coil that generates thermal energy through an electromagnetic field. The cooktop spreads an electromagnetic field about 90 times less than a conventional hair dryer.

The myth that using an induction hob can be harmful to your health is false.

These plates have undeniable advantages. No inertia during heating reduces cooking time to a minimum. No food residue burns on it. As soon as the dishes are removed, the technique turns off automatically. As soon as you put the pot back in, the panel goes back into operating mode. See also the rating of induction cooktops.

Refrigerator

A freestanding refrigerator can’t be built in

If your new kitchen plan includes a cabinet under the fridge, you’ll need to buy a new fridge. Your old hob simply won’t fit. A built-in refrigerator has a completely different design. Instead of the usual decorative doors, the door of the built-in “rough-in” has huge hinges and is mounted directly to the front of the cabinet. It is not possible to remove the door from an old refrigerator and attach it to the cabinet. Also freestanding models have a different cooling system that requires air circulation near the walls of the appliance.

build, oven, column

And finally, you need to consider the size. While free-standing refrigerators are usually 60 cm wide, the built-in refrigerator underneath a 60 cm wide cabinet is narrower to fit inside.

The built-in refrigerator is less capacious

That’s true. A standard problem in modern kitchens is that you want a built-in refrigerator, but not enough space. In this case there are three options. The first is to build two refrigerators at once or to order a custom-sized kitchen and look for a large refrigerator for 2 doors. But that’s if space allows. The second option. to refuse mounting in general and beat freestanding model, and the third. to take a built-in refrigerator without a freezer and a separate freezer under the countertop. Before ordering a kitchen, go shopping and assess what should be a suitable built-in refrigerator for you.

Electric oven installation

How to install an electric built-in oven? It is easier to install than a gas appliance, but also requires some knowledge. The installation diagram is almost identical for the different models.

Reference. Small appliances with a width of 45 cm need special installation conditions and cannot be installed under the stove hob.

The device is placed either under the countertop or above the level of the table in a prepared niche. Do not forget to leave gaps (their recommended dimensions are prescribed in the instruction manual). The appliance must be leveled before installation. Inaccuracies lead to a breach in its operation. Then the oven should be fastened to the walls of the mounting basement.

The main difficulty in installation is to connect the appliances to the power grid. It is connected to one, two or three phases. When the network has a voltage of 220 V, it is recommended to use the first option. Many ovens are designed for high power consumption, but not all wiring can withstand this load. Therefore, often lay an additional line for the trimmer, which is connected to the power switchboard, install a separate circuit breaker.

The cross section of the wire must match the power of recessed equipment. from 2.5 to 4 kV. mm. For example, to connect an oven equipped with a steam generator, a wire with a cross section of at least 4 kV is used. mm.

For safe operation of the oven, grounding is always provided. In an apartment building, the conductor is earthed to the busbar of the common switchboard. In a private home with reliable wiring, it is acceptable to connect and assemble the ovens using outlets. You must insert the plug yourself. It must have a grounding plate. The socket is selected on the basis of the technical characteristics of the household appliance. It must be installed no lower than 10 cm from the floor. It should not be attached behind the back wall of the niche, but only to the side. The distance from the electric oven to the socket should be such that the cord remains in reserve. The plug should be easy to pull out.

Installing the safety shutoff device

We recommend installing a residual current device (RCD) on the oven connection line in addition to a circuit breaker. This process should be entrusted to a qualified professional.

Use a circuit breaker to protect the wiring from overheating and short-circuit currents. RCDs protect the user. If there is a ground fault, a touch of a phase wire, it will cut off the power. The amperage of the automatic circuit breaker is calculated on the basis of the current consumption of the appliance. When the hob is connected together with the oven, it is selected on the basis of the total power of the devices. RCD settings should be one step higher than the rating of the circuit breaker. For example, if you have a circuit breaker for 25 A, select a RCD for 32 A. For the second parameter, cut-off current, the selection is as follows. If a single appliance is connected to the line, choose 10 mA. Class A and B are suitable for installation. Class AC is not recommended because. к. it does not provide the proper degree of safety.

Tip:. To make the oven work long and safe, use a large cross-section wire, circuit breaker and RCD.

Installation methods

But still no housewife can do without the oven, with its help cook delicacies, pastries and many meat dishes. There are many different solutions on the market with different designs and working methods and with different volumes and other features. Before selecting a design, you need to familiarize yourself with all the developments in this direction.

How to install your Electrolux Oven. Column installation

Ovens can be installed in two ways. The mounting options are as follows:

build, oven, column
  • Independent, when the technique is simply installed in a furniture niche. It has the ability to move from place to place.
  • Built-in, when the cabinet is installed in the niche in its permanent place and is dismantled only with the furniture. Built-in oven is more common.

The way of heating food is also divided into two ways:

Gas ovens are installed by gas fitters in a finished kitchen, but they have a number of advantages. For example, the cheapness of cooking. There is a disadvantage. cooking is carried out by burning gas, which burns in the burners and, as a rule, heats only the bottom of the working space of the cabinet. This leads to uneven heating of the entire volume. With an electric oven, this problem is solved by the fact that the heating devices are located on all sides. this gives even heating of the entire workspace. You can install it under the countertop.

Installing a gas oven

There are usually a lot of challenges with this type of appliance

Here it is important not only to properly prepare the space, but also to ensure quick access to the gas shut-off valves, which may be needed in an emergency

Also note that the distance between the unit and the gas supply pipe must be at least 1.2 meters. Do not use extension cords or adapters.

Be sure to shut off the gas before installation. Once all fasteners are made, check for leaks and tightness by turning on the gas. When checking the equipment, you should not feel the characteristic smell. If it appears, the gas will have to be shut off again until the problem is corrected.

Only after everything has been done as accurately as possible can the oven be installed in the garnish. We advise you not to do such work yourself, but still entrust the work to professionals.

Gas furnace installation diagram

If the built-in oven is dependent, that is, it comes complete with a hob and a common control panel, it is installed under the stove at the same time with it. Mount the independent furnace in any convenient location. The main condition: it must be located near the gas tap.

When installing and connecting it is necessary to follow the procedure, use appropriate materials and follow the instructions exactly. After completing installation work, check the tightness of connections. Often when installing a built-in oven with their own hands use a tee for a gas pipe, which is already connected to the hob. This method is contrary to the rules of the installation of gas equipment and faces a penalty. The oven and the hob should be connected separately, bringing each appliance to its own pipe.

Before installing the oven, study the instruction manual. Use a flexible hose or metal pipe to connect to the gas mains. The second option is used when the technique is installed next to it. The hose connection must be a one-piece, not longer than 1.5 m. When installing it must not be squeezed and pull.

  • First check the completeness of the equipment and the absence of mechanical damage.
  • Then connect one end of the hose to the gas line. Before installing the faucet insert dielectric insert.
  • The other end of the hose is connected to the household appliance by screwing a nut on the thread. To ensure sealing, install a special gasket lubricated with solidol.
  • After that, check the joints for leaks with a soapy solution. Apply it to the joints and open the faucet. If there are no bubbles, then it’s done right.
  • If the technique is equipped with an electric ignition, it is additionally connected to the electric network. For power supply use a separate line for the trimmer with grounding.
  • After connection, fix the oven in the furniture niche using the brackets provided. If the model comes with mounting strips, they are fixed inside the box.
  • Then check the appliance’s operation by turning it on according to the instructions. If it works correctly, the installation is complete.

After installation and connection, the gas service technician must check for leaks. He makes an appropriate note of the date of visit, the serial number of the equipment and the type of connection. It is not recommended to use the appliance until it has been checked.

The height of the oven can be a problem

In fact, as installation professionals say and write, the problem is not the width of the niche, although it is also important, but the height of the oven.

Almost all ovens do not fit in the niche, the height of which is less than 598 mm. The control knob assembly is to blame. This is especially true if the oven is installed in a rack and not in a table. The standard size of the box of the bottom kitchen cupboard 720 mm and if you want it will fit any oven. But the niches in the racks have strict dimensions of niches, which can not be changed.

Built-in oven dimensions example

Do not believe everything that is written

To continue the story. Picked up an acceptable oven model at the appliance store. The description says oven dimensions 600×520×600 (W×H×HV). What really suited me is the depth of 520 mm. The 600 mm deep ovens didn’t fit in the kitchen range at all.

However, according to this description, the situation with the recess for the oven is not clear at all. The width of 600 mm, refers to the dimensions of the front panel of the oven and does not say anything about the required recess for its installation.

And then the funniest thing began. When trying to find the required dimensions of the niche of this oven, I kept coming across only one size, the niche should be 580×525×560 (W×G×HV). Which, understandably, does not fit into the standard 600 mm wide oven table, with a recess of 568 mm (the calculation above).

The data I found was clearly questionable. And so it turned out. I found a native PDF manual about the operation of the oven I chose. It turns out that this model can fit (build into a niche with minimum dimensions of 555×525×598 (W×H×HV), and the front panel has dimensions of 595×595 mm.

This means that the oven’s front panel will fit perfectly on the 600 mm wide walls of a cupboard table.

In the photo I showed the name of this oven. And instead of the conclusion do not believe everything they write, even the store consultant check, preferably with your own tape measure.

Installation instructions

Installing both the hob and the oven begins with preparing the site.

Installing the hob

Preparing the place to install the panel is to process the ends of the landing hole. The ends are treated with a special sealant, which is supplied with the hob. If this is not available, the cuts are treated with silicone. This will prevent the formation of fungus and mold growth.

After the drying of the sealant proceed to install the device. The panel is carefully inserted into the prepared niche. The final step is securing the hob to the worktop. To do this, use special clips that fix the position of the panel from the inside. Clamps prevent the surface to move in the hole.

After installation, connect the panel to the mains according to the wiring diagram on the back of the product.

Installing the oven

The oven is installed in a recess below the hob. During installation, you use a spirit level to make sure that the surface on which the oven is to be placed is horizontal. This maximizes the efficiency of the unit.

After completing the installation, measure the distance from the bottom of the oven to the floor. it must be at least 8 cm. The same distance is set between the wall and the back of the device.

After installation, the oven is plugged in and tested to make sure it is operating properly.

In modern kitchens, hobs and ovens are increasingly being used instead of traditional electric stoves. They’re also functional, take up less space, and fit nicely into a modern design.

Proper installation of the hob and oven. a guarantee not only of trouble-free operation of equipment, but also of safe operation. Wiring errors cause short circuits and fires. Therefore, the installation of appliances is approached responsibly and, if necessary, a specialist is called in.

Photo Hunt: 23 column kitchen projects. from compact to XXL

Build in the cabinet-column appliances and add additional shelves for storage in the kitchen, and what else? In what situations designers choose the kitchen layout with cabinets “in the column“?? Are cabinets-columns appropriate in a small kitchen, how many of them should be? We collected more than two dozen projects and figured out what’s special about these kitchens.

Three columns of different widthTo find a place for built-in appliances in the kitchen-living room, designers Anastasia Rykova and Vitaly Martynov built a niche. in the partition between the doors. The distance from aperture to aperture did not allow to organize three full-size columns, and there was plenty of space for two. As a result, the kitchen made a narrow retractable column for cereals and spices, and on the sides of it built a refrigerator and a microwave above the oven.
