Gas Consumption Calculation
User reviews
I have been using a gas water heater Neva Transit for 3 years now. In controlling it is very convenient, because it does not require me to have extra knowledge and skills, all managed by the standard program. I would like to note that this type of heating is more profitable than the centralized supply. In the latter case, it was very difficult to count on even a warm or room temperature, and now I have the ability to choose the degree of heating itself, while significantly saving.
After buying a new apartment, we immediately began to replace plumbing and all related components. For a very long time thought about what to do with the central water supply, and we were advised by craftsmen to gas boiler, as the pressure in the pipes promotes installation. I can say one thing, we were very pleased with the effect obtained and never regretted.
This kind of technique is a real boon. That is what it means, technological progress does not stand still. Despite the fact that I have only recently purchased a Neva 4011, I have already managed to feel all the advantages.

Type of ignition
In order for the heater to start working, it is necessary to ignite the gas. The old models lit by hand, bringing a burning match to the igniter. Today, these units are no longer on sale, they are a thing of the past. They have been replaced by others that work in automatic or semi-automatic mode.
Piezo ignition
In gas-fired columns with a piezo element, ignition is in semi-automatic mode. There are two burners, one main and one pilot. Pilot burner is a small wick that burns constantly, regardless of whether there is a flow of hot water or not. The main burner turns on only when you open the faucet. The rest of the time it is switched off.
The procedure for starting a gas boiler with piezo ignition is simple: you press the button on the front panel, a spark appears on the candles, which lights the pilot burner. When the hot water tap is opened, gas is directed to the main burner and ignition comes from the pilot burner. While the water flow is going on, both burners are on. The tap is closed, the gas supply to the main burner is cut off, only the pilot burner is on again.
Piezor ignition device for gas boilers is a simple and inexpensive device
What are the advantages of gas boilers with piezo elements? These are the cheapest models, usually have a mechanical control regulator that allows you to change the height of the flame, thereby regulating the temperature of hot water. These models are energy independent, which can be important for country houses.
There are more disadvantages and they are more serious. The wick burns (should burn) constantly, as long as you use the heater, and it consumes gas. Let it be small, but it is constant, and as a result it adds up to a pretty decent amount of money in a month. So this is not the most economical way to heat water. The second disadvantage is also associated with burning wick. If it goes out, you will not be able to ignite the heater. The wick goes out because there is not enough oxygen for combustion, or because there is a periodic back draft in the chimney, which blows out the flame. Since there is a flame controller, it is not a problem gas is shut off automatically, but the need to restart the pilot burner is unpleasant.
Electric ignition
Automatic gas water heaters have an electric ignition. It is an electric spark generator that activates when you open the faucet. All the rest of the time the gas is not lit, which significantly saves fuel. There is an electric ignition, running from batteries, there is a network 220 V. What is the best gas water heater on this parameter to choose by circumstances.
If you often have a power outage, it makes sense to choose a model that runs on batteries. As you understand, in this case, you have to make sure that they do not run out. If there are no problems with electricity or have a backup power source, it is better to choose a gas water heater, working from 220 V mains. You plugged the cord into the socket once and forgot about it. Electricity consumption is negligible, so that the bill they almost have no effect.
Electric ignition is controlled by a microprocessor
Automatic gas heaters have electronic control. The cabinet has a board with a microprocessor, the desired temperature is set with a small control panel (button or touch-screen). There is also often put a small LCD screen, which displays the current state of the equipment, the temperature of the water, if it is heated. This type of gas water heater is the best if you appreciate the convenience of handling.
Disadvantages are higher price and need for power supply. The electronics needs a stable voltage of 220 V with small deviations of about 23 V. Such parameters we do not withstand, so in order for the automatic gas water heater to work long, you need a stabilizer, and preferably not a relay, but an electronic one. It not only stabilizes the voltage, but also aligns the pulse shape, which is also very important for imported water heaters.
Working principle
Heating of water in the column, running on liquefied gas, is produced during its flow through the heat exchanger, which is affected by the heat from the burner. While water is flowing inside the unit, its temperature increases, resulting in hot water coming from the faucet almost immediately after turning on the speaker.
Today it is difficult to imagine a home that is not equipped with a means to obtain hot water Smokeless gas boiler. a device for heating running water by combustion energy of natural gas for the subsequent use of the water for various domestic purposes.

Calculator for calculating the required capacity of the gas heater
The basic principle of the gas heater is simple: cold water passes through a heat exchanger, which is heated by a gas burner. Water circulation is ensured by an integrated pump. Modern models are equipped with a multi-stage safety system and control electronics, allow infinitely variable adjustment of water temperature and maintain a stable flow regardless of variations in pressure. The water temperature at the outlet. from 35 to 60 ° C, this is more than enough for water procedures, as a comfortable temperature is 40 ° C. Water can be heated up to 80 °C for delivery to the heating system.
The device turns on either automatically when you open the water faucet, or simply by pressing a button.
Most often in country houses two-circuit gas boilers are used, which allow you to solve two problems simultaneously: space heating and DHW supply. They are triggered by the temperature sensor, which reacts to a decrease in temperature in the room. A fundamental feature of the two-circuit boiler. the priority of DHW over heating. When you turn on the hot water in the bathroom or kitchen, the heat supply to the heating system is stopped or slowed. With quality thermal insulation of the house, it does not lead to a marked drop in temperature in the room: to make the house is noticeably colder, the heating should be off for at least 2-3 hours.
In the warm season, when the heating is not needed, the boiler can be switched to single-circuit mode.
The area of heating for two-circuit gas boilers is determined on the basis of 1 kW capacity per 10 square meters of floor area.m of area. That is the appliance with power of 20 kW used in heating mode heats about 200 square kilometers.m of living space.
On average, a water heater with an output of 23 kW, requires a fuel consumption of 2.84 cubic meters / hour. If you estimate this figure in the total nominal value, then it is safe to say that using the gas boiler is 4 times more profitable in comparison with the electric one.

Gas stove
Let’s try to understand if the norm is reasonable. How much gas we spend on cooking?
If you turn all four burners of an average stove to maximum, it will consume about one cubic meter of gas in an hour. A large burner will burn 0.375 cubic meters, two medium burners. 0.25 each, a small one. 0.125.
The Ivanovs and Petrovs have ordinary stoves. The Petrovs also have a gas oven, and the Ivanovs have an electric oven. The oven consumes 0.4 cubic meters of gas per hour.
The Ivanovs can use their 30 cubic meters a day by turning on every burner for an hour to its full power (1 cubic meter x 30 days). In principle it is possible, but you have to love cooking.
For Petrov, to spend 50 cubic meters, you need to turn on the stove in the same mode (30 cubic meters), plus 25 times a month for two hours to use the oven (0.4×2×25 = 20 cubic meters). That is, frying, steaming and baking practically non-stop.
Usually, the gas stove consumes from 5 to 40 cubic meters a month. depending on the size of the family, the model of the stove, and the intensity of its use.
If you want to know if you are benefiting from a meter, check how many hours a day you use each burner and the oven, and calculate your gas consumption (see table below). above). If you get noticeably less than 10 cubic meters a month (0.33 per day) per person, you will definitely need a meter.
The Ivanovs love to cook and the three of them use 0.55 cubic meters of gas on weekdays and 2 cubic meters on weekends. They have an average of 9 weekends and 21 weekdays in a month. The Ivanovs’ consumption is 9×2 21×0.55 = 18 11.55 = 29.55 cubic meters of gas per month.
With a meter, they will save 0.45×5.835 = 2.63 rubles per month. Even the cheapest meter won’t pay for itself with these figures.
The five Petrovs spend the same 0.55 cubic meters of gas per day, and on weekends they bake something in the oven for about three hours each. They spend 30×0.55 9×0.4×3 = 16.5 10.8 = 27.3 cubic meters of gas. This is noticeably less than the norm.
With a meter, they will pay 27.3×5.835 = 159.29 rubles a month. Saved 132 and a half rubles will allow them to pay off an inexpensive meter (with installation) in two and a half years.
Gas column
Is the norm of gas for the column is reasonable? Do we really spend 16.2 cubic meters of gas per month for heating water (i.e. 0.54 cubic meters per day)??
To get an idea of how much gas the heater uses, you need to know how much water you have to heat.
To heat 400 liters of water to the standard 55 ° C will require 2.7 cubic meters of gas. Each month there will be 81 cubic meters of gas, which will cost 472 rubles 63 kopecks.

It turns out that in order to use the standard amount of gas, the Petrovs need to spend 400 liters of hot water per day, that is, 80 liters per person. And per month, so 12 cubic meters. It’s pretty complicated. think back to our last article.
The Petrovs put a meter on the column and made sure that it only spends 60.75 cubic meters of gas a month, that is 2.025 cubic meters per day. So the Petrov family consumes 300 liters of water a day. 60 per person. 9 cubic meters of hot water a month is quite a lot, by the way.
And now it costs them to heat water 60.75 x 5.835 = 354 47 kopecks. So they save on the column 118.16 rubles a month. Plus another 132.45 rubles. for the stove, the total. 250 rubles a month, three thousand a year.
Gas heating
The Smirnoffs actually spend 15 cc per day, 450 per month (7.5 per cc). This is a lot, but still less than the norm. And the Sidorovs, although their apartment is exactly the same. 6 cubic meters per day, 180 per month (3 per cubic meter).
The Smirnovs didn’t think it would be wise to install a meter until they could reduce their gas consumption. And the Sidorovs did. And now they pay for gas 180×5,026 = 904.68 rubles per month, saving 2110.92 rubles. Agree, more than pleasant.
The more exterior walls. the more heat is lost. That’s why gas consumption is always higher in corner apartments, and even more so in detached houses. The Kuznetsovs spend 22 cubic meters of gas a day, 660 a month (5.5 per cubic meter). It costs them 3,317.16 rubles (2,714.04 rubles less than they would have to pay according to the standards).
Is it compulsory to install a gas meter in an apartment??
Originally initiated by the Government, the law on energy conservation required all citizens to install gas meters by January 1, 2015. However, later, those who use blue fuel only for cooking were spared this obligation. According to the amendments adopted by the State Duma, the objects, the maximum volume of gas consumption which does not exceed 2 cubic meters per hour, the requirements of the law on energy conservation do not apply. Even if you turn on a column with an oven and all burners at the same time, the fuel consumption will not exceed the established standard. It turns out that people do not have to install meters in their apartments. By the way, consumers themselves and some experts interpret the reason for the emergence of softening amendments to the law differently. Someone believes that metering devices can save money, so the suppliers of resources, at the risk of missing out on profits, asked deputies to postpone the mandatory installation until a better time.
What else you should pay attention to when choosing
In the technical characteristics of gas-fired boilers there are a few more lines to which you should pay attention. First, see the minimum water and gas pressure with which this model can work. The imported gas heaters from European manufacturers in this regard are more capricious, they are designed for a stable pressure, bad tolerate drops. But under normal conditions, they work steadily and without failures.
Some manufacturers, in order to adapt their equipment to our conditions put reducers that compensate jumps. If the model you like does not have such a device, and you have a jumping pressure of water and / or gas, you can install a pressure reducer in front of the inlet to the speaker. The device is simply put in the gap pipe, installation is standard. At the same time and other consumers you will be protected.
The operation parameters should be monitored
It is also useful to study the list of service programs and levels of protection. The safety and comfort of the equipment depends on them. It is very desirable to have the following functionality:
- Gas control. Monitors the presence of flame on the burner, if it goes out, cuts off the gas supply.
- Traction control. Controls the presence of draft in the chimney. If the combustion products are not drained off, the gas supply is shut off.
- Flow control or hydraulic valve. Turns off the heater if the water pressure is too weak or there is no water pressure at all.
- Protection against overheating. Temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the water in the heat exchanger, when approaching a critical point (boiling) it shuts down the heater. This extends the life of the equipment (the heat exchanger can burst if it boils over, as can the pipes).
These features are essential for the safe operation of the gas heater. This is almost a standard set, which is in all good gas water heaters. All others as you wish. They are usually not so critical anymore (such as the remote control).
